Karin Wong is a long-range anti-air specialist sniper with a kit designed against fliers. To this end, she comes with air attack range extension, enhanced basics on air targets, and air target priority. Karin is purpose-built to snipe fliers.
Karin’s Alternium Reactor provides a boost to her damage. It is not enough to make her competitively viable, but damage can always be appreciated. Notably, it does not address any of her existing problems; Karin’s flaws still limit her from seeing widespread use.
In PVE, Karin struggles to compete with general damage dealers for the role on the team. Karin may be specialized, but she often finds herself outclassed by general damage dealers who don’t seem to have issues killing everything, fliers included, and then some.
In PVP, Karin has several glaring weaknesses keeping her from being viable. These are:
Passive transition animation lock: Karin goes through a long barrel-swap animation when she switches between “melee” and “ranged” range. In a PVP environment with constantly changing ranges, Karin can trap herself in an endless animation loop. This significantly affects her damage uptime to the point she is borderline unplayable.
Poor survivability: Karin is fragile and has next to no defensive utility. On paper, she comes with a proximity-triggered wall summon meant to push enemies away when they get too close. In practice, it does little to nothing.
