Introduction

Ulu is a 5✦ rarity character from the Mineral afflatus who deals Mental damage and belongs to the Support class.

Ulu's kit brings a mix of damage buffs and survivability. Her main utility lies in her role as a consistent [Burn] applicator. Not only can she inflict [Burn] with her mass debuff, but Ulu automatically applies 3 stacks of [Burn] at the start of every round. Her kit is also largely reliant on [Burn]; most notably, her Ultimate's DMG Dealt% and Damage Taken Reduction% buffs double in effect when the enemy has 15+ total stacks of [Burn]. Overall, Ulu is a decent choice for [Burn] teams that require a little extra sustain.

Mass Buff. All allies gain DMG Dealt +15% and DMG Taken -15% for 3 rounds. If enemies have 15 or more stacks of [Burn] in total, the DMG Dealt effect is doubled.

Review

Ulu is a 5-Star Support of the Mineral Afflatus. She is focused around supporting Spathodea basically, making do with inflicting stacks of [Burn] and providing decent offensive and defensive buffs with her Ultimate. Her kit appears completely centered around helping Spathodea, causing her to rely characters that can exploit [Burn].

Her "Opening Ceremony" skill is considered a 'dead card' similar to Balloon Party's "Pinata", it is a somewhat pointless damage skill that gains increased Penetration Rate when the target is affected by [Burn]. Given that she isn't a Carry, and the numbers aren't anything to write home about it, there is no reason to use this card beyond casting it to get it out of your hand. On the contrary, "Beating Heart" is a lot better, inflicting an amount of [Burn] stacks to up to two targets.

Her Ultimate: "Indomitable Fire, Scorching Heart" provides a lackluster +DMG Dealt and -DMG Taken buff to all allies for 3 rounds. If the total amount of [Burn] stacks present on the enemy team equals 15 or more, the potency of the provided buffs are increased.

Her Insights allow her to heal allies at the start of the round, similar to how APPLe functions, but her Insight 3 is definitely where it's at. It causes her to inflict 3x [Burn] on all enemies at the start of the round, allowing for a passive application of the debuff should you need it.

Ulu's kit is a bit odd, with her Ultimate providing buffs only marginally better to a rank 3 Sonetto "Exhortation IX", and it even has the [Burn] condition on it or it would only apply a rank 1 version of said skill. In addition, with how [Burn] halves its stacks every round to deal damage, there are very few instances wherein Ulu can ramp up the amount of stacks that stick to the enemy (as she only applies an average of 4x [Burn] per round). This not only makes her quite unimpressive when compared to most other Supports, it also prevents her from synergizing properly with her intended Carry, as she just can't output the amount of [Burn] that Spathodea would realistically want her to.

Pros & Cons

Pros

Passively inflicts [Burn] and healing at the beginning of the round. Realistically only has to take 1 active action to cast "Beating Heart" for extra [Burn] stacks.
Ultimate can line up reasonably well with Carry units due to its long duration and the rounds needed to charge it.

Cons

For a [Burn] support she inflicts very little [Burn]. Requires AP-greedy play if you want to make her ramp [Burn] in any kind of way.
Her healing and buffs are weak compared to most other Supports. It's especially criminal since her Ultimate only applies +DMG Dealt and -DMG Taken buffs equal to a rank 1 Sonetto skill unless you hit the [Burn] quota.
Has a dead card in "Opening Ceremony", which is more or less a nail in the coffin given how the rest of her kit is.
