Review

Go Gunhee brings to SLA an extremely stacked and wordy kit, with a plethora of buffs both exclusive to himself but also some that will greatly benefit your Light teammates once you've been able to advance him and his weapon.

The bulk of Go Gunhee's distinctiveness lies in his passives and advancements: [Broken Vessel], [Ruler's Aura], and [Fragment of Brilliant Light].

[Broken Vessel] is somewhat of an oddity, as it reduces the healing Gunhee receives, though it otherwise has minimal impact on his overall gameplay. [Ruler's Aura], on the other hand, not only dramatically boosts Gunhee's survivability but also provides a substantial 30% Defense increase every time he uses his QTE or his first skill, Fighting Spirit. [Fragment of Brilliant Light] is triggered when using his second skill, Power of Brilliant Light. This ability instantly charges his Core Attack and transforms both his Core Attack and Fighting Spirit into enhanced versions, each dealing 60% more damage—similar to Seo Jiwoo's "Heavy" skill variants.

Other than that, his abilities are mostly standard, having Break on all his moves except the ult before A3. Do note that the adjectives used to give an idea of a Break attack's potency do not have universal values spread across all the roster. For example Gunhee's weak Break on basic attacks is not the same as the weak Break on his skills, and isn't the same either when compared with other Breaker's weak Breaks.

For the priotity in skill upgrades, the Core Attack as well as the two Basic skills take priority and the Ult follows. Aim for Lvl7, but don't push the skills higher until you've built your main carries first.

Moving on to advancements, this is where Gunhee truly begins to shine, becoming significantly more effective in every aspect.

  • A1: Activates his Core Attacks each time he uses Fighting Spirit while transforming it into its more powerful version for 15 seconds. Power of Brilliant Light also grants a team-wide buff, [Will of Brilliant Light], which scales with the number of Light allies in your party, boosting both Light damage and Critical damage for 20 seconds.

  • A2 and A4: Provide the usual enhancements to Break effectiveness and self-buffing, typical of non-support characters.

  • A3: Changes Gunhee's Ultimate Supernova and make it the first Ultimate ability with a Break effect, and an almighty one at that! [Ruler's Aura] will also be enhanced to give an extra 20% Damage reduction to Gunhee on top of its previous buffs. Very strong considering this old man will be spamming his abilities like crazy and knowing the poor dodging skills of the auto mode.

  • A5: As an icing on the cake, it buffs his Supernova damage whenever the enemy has a Break Gauge or giving his entire team another very strong buff when the enemy does not have a Break Gauge. Indeed, all your team members will receive 30% Crit damage (that's an extra 8 piece Greed set worth of Crit damage) and all your Hunters' QTEs will deal double damage for the next 20seconds after Gunhee Ults.

Gunhee's weapon, A Conviction and a Calling, is a fairly powerful weapon thanks to its debuff, allowing all your Light damage on marked targets to be increased by 4-10% depending on its advancement. The weapon will bring a sizeable buff when playing in Light advantaged content. If you wish to spread your resources across multiple elements we advise to upgrade your carries' weapons first and come back to Gunhee's later, as it should be fairly easy to get a few copies of it for free during his event release.

Gunhee excels with a full 8-piece Greed set, which significantly enhances both his and his teammates' performance. If the Burning series gear is unavailable, the Solid Analysis, Warmonger or Guardian set will suffice. For Jewelry, the 4-piece Greed set is an excellent option. For classic sets, consider the Executioner set, or opt for the Sylph’s Blessing for a more support-oriented Gunhee (pairing Guardian and Sylph for a full support/break build). Prioritize Defense (both flat and %), Crit Rate, and potentially Damage Reduction and HP if Gunhee struggles to survive in intense battles.

Gunhee greatly benefits from having Light element teammates, and so he'll naturally pair well with Min Byung-Gu and Cha Hae-In, both extremely good performers in their own roles. Gunhee will also easily find a spot as an off element Breaker thanks to his various buffs, especially at high advancement. Given his ability to spam Core Attacks, he will also fit extremely well into the Core Attack team, alongside Meilin and Alicia.

Should You Pull?

The short answer is yes. Gunhee is shaping up to be one of the strongest Breakers we've had since the release of the game, his Break effectiveness is high, his personal damage is high, and his multiple buffs are also powerful and easy to capitalize on. At the time of his release up to 2 copies of him are obtainable for free, which is awesome as A1 will be his most efficient stopping point. It will also make maxing him much easier during his release compared to other Hunters, which will further cement his place as a core member of every player's roster.

Investment:
  • For Free-to-Play Players: A1 is sufficient, meaning you may not need to spend any pulls to make him viable. A2 is also worth considering for additional Break effectiveness but isn’t strictly necessary.

  • For Dolphins: A3 is the next logical stopping point, as it strengthens his Ultimate and self-buffs, ensuring Gunhee performs well even in challenging content.

  • For Whales: If you wanna turn him into the Heaven Beyond the Sky , A5 will be the way to go. Gunhee will become a terminator, pumping out damage, break and buffs at an unrelenting pace which is certain to increase the longevity of the battle weary veteran. No retirement for you anytime soon, old man.

Best Weapons

For SSR characters, you always want to use their Signature/EX Weapon - they are simply the best for them. Until you obtain the signature weapon, just use the options listed below. The priority is set from left to right. Also, If you have a Signature/EX weapon for a Hunter that is not in your team you can consider using it for the raw stats alone - as long as it matches the character.
