Skill I

Lightning: Judradjim

Unlocks at level 11

Cooldown: -

Range: 7 Tiles

When a battle starts, Frieren conceals her magic, making enemies less likely to target her. 15s into the battle, she amplifies her magic power, increasing her damage dealt by 60%, replacing her normal attack with Lightning: Judradjim, and no longer being a low-priority target for enemies.

Lightning: Judradjim strikes an enemy 3 times, each hit dealing 220% + 25% damage, and the final hit stuns the target for 0.5s.

After fighting alongside Himmel for 5s, Frieren immediately amplifies her magic power, ignoring the time restriction, and gains a permanent ATK bonus equal to 30% of Himmel's initial ATK.

Unlocks at level 71: Increases Lightning: Judradjim's damage per hit to 230% + 25%.

Unlocks at level 131: Increases Lightning: Judradjim's damage per hit to 240% + 25%.

Unlocks at level 191: Increases Lightning: Judradjim's damage per hit to 250% + 25%.

Enemies in the burning area lose 35% HP every 0.5s, and their Vitality is reduced by 20 + 5. After Frieren amplifies her magic power, this skill's cooldown is reduced by 50%.

Unlocks at level 91: Reduces the Vitality of enemies burned by Hellfire: Vollzanbel by 30 + 5.

Review

Review

Frieren is an S-level Dimensional Mage who excels in sustained combat and boss encounters. Her kit is designed around a delayed Magic Amplification that significantly increases her damage output and skill frequency. Unlike many other Mages, she possesses unique defensive layers that protect her from being easily burst down by the enemy.

Frieren is a powerhouse in the Dream Realm and high-level PvE, rivaling the performance of meta staples like Galahad. Her strength lies in her combination of Vitality reduction through her Hellfire: Vollzanbel skill and True Damage via her Ultimate, Zoltraak.

A defining feature of her kit is her Amplified Magic Power State. This is built into her Lightning: Judrajim skill and triggers 15 seconds into a battle, granting her a 60% damage boost and replacing her Basic Attack with a 3-hit combo attack that stuns on the final hit. While that is great, the really key bonus in the amplified state is that it reduces the cooldown of Hellfire: Vollzanbel by 50%, allowing her to use her AoE Vitality loss skill much more frequently. Additionally, her Hero Focus will give her +10% ATK in her amplified state as well.

Her Ultimate is nice because it is an AoE that splits damage evenly amongst targets hit, which makes it relevant in Dream Realm and other boss fights, because when she only hits one target, they take the full damage of the attack.

Defensively, she is surprisingly sturdy. Her Defensive Magic passive grants her and the frontmost ally a 75% (85% at EX+15) Damage Reduction to any hit exceeding 10% of their starting max HP. She also has a passive skill that makes enemies less likely to target her at the start of battle. These make her one of the few backline carries capable of surviving a direct initiation from burst-heavy units without requiring immediate support.

When paired with Himmel, she gets the following benefits:

  • Enters Amplify Magic State after 5s instead of 15s and gains ATK equal to +30% of Himmel’s initial ATK.

  • +30 Penetration if she is part of Himmel’s Hero Party.

M+ EX+0 is the minimum investment recommended, as it provides a significant Haste buff for Frieren. Her Supreme+ bonus is more of a nice to have, but not especially relevant for bosses. However, since her damage and buffs scale based on her ATK, realistically, you’ll want to invest in her as much as you can in terms of copies and EX weapon levels.

Investment
  • Legendary+: Increases her ATK and increases it further in the Amplify Magic State.

  • Mythic+ (EX Weapon): Grants her and the frontmost ally a 75% Damage Reduction to any hit exceeding 10% of their starting max HP.

  • EX+5: Increases the Damage Reduction to 80%.

  • EX+10: Grants 35 Haste as long as the protected ally is alive.

  • EX+15: Increases the Damage Reduction to 85%.

  • Supreme+: 5s after amplifying her magic, she hurls the enemy with the most cumulative damage toward the edge of the battlefield, dealing damage and knocking them down for 2s.

Performance in Various Game Modes
  • AFK Stages: Frieren is certainly not weak in AFK Stages, but she does lack a lot of the AoE control effects and other traits that other Mages can provide. She’s not a bad option depending on your roster, but there are definitely a fair number of other heroes better suited to the role.

  • PvP: In PvP, Frieren serves as a sturdy, high-damage carry. Her Damage Reduction passive allows her to stay on the field even when targeted by burst teams. The downside is that she does have a ramp-up time to become amplified. If you can pair her with Himmel, this is less of an issue. However, Himmel may not be usable in all maps due to positioning, and he also may work better with a more PvP-oriented Mage.

  • Dream Realm: Frieren is a meta-defining unit for the Dream Realm, specifically in Endless mode. Her HP-loss skill lasts for 5s and has a 5s cooldown once she’s amplified, meaning she can effectively maintain this debuff indefinitely. This, paired with the True Damage in her Ultimate, makes her very effective against bosses.

Conclusion

Frieren is a meta-defining addition to the Dream Realm roster and worth the investment, provided you can get her to at least Mythic+ EX+10. One copy of Himmel can enable her 5s ramp-up period, so it is recommended to at least grab one copy of him if you’re going to invest in Frieren.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Has great Dream Realm boss damage with True Damage and HP loss mechanics.

  • Has higher survivability than other mages thanks to her built-in passives.

  • Gets a nice boost from having Himmel on the team.

  • Has ridiculously high ATK stats.

Cons

  • Takes time to ramp up to full potential.

  • Wants the highest amount of investment you can give her.

  • Doesn’t have much damage mitigation against multiple smaller hits.

  • Missing out on a few aspects of her kits when not paired with Himmel.
