Review
Thador is an A-rank Wilder Tank who can do a little bit of everything, while also acting as a Crit buffer and debuffer and providing a big chunk of Energy to an ally at the start of battle.
Thador’s Ultimate, “Moonveil Manifest”, debuffs enemies’ Critical Damage Defense while inside the ritual zone, and then deals damage to enemies inside it, while also healing allies after enemies have accumulated damage.
When placing units during battle preparation, the unit placed behind Thador becomes his lieutenant and benefits from his first skill, “Markmoon Pact”, which increases the ally’s Critical Rate, but more importantly, at EX +10 he also grants that ally 350 Energy, which is the most notable part of Thador’s kit, and enables unique strategies based around Ultimate-reliant heroes.
This ability also has an Active state, where Thador grants Shields to himself and his lieutenant.
His second skill, “Crescent Cleave”, is a simple damaging skill that knocks enemies down in an arc, and is spammable with its relatively short cooldown.
Now, for a quick overview of his performance in the various game modes:
Story and AFK stages – Thador has quite a few good pairings for AFK stages, for characters who want to get their Ultimates out as soon as possible, such as Shemira, Faramor and Cyran, but even with a favourable defensive charm, he is not quite tanky enough to stand at the frontline by himself and needs to share some of the heat with another frontline character such as Eironn, Ulmus or Faramor.
Dream Realm – Thador has some potential to be paired up with a Crit-based DPS carry such as Lenya, but that is not enough to make the cut in bossing content aside from possibly Ravaged Realm.
PVP – Thador enables Ultimate-reliant heroes such as Cryonaia and Shemira to truly shine in PVP, as his initial burst of energy allows your hyper-carry to use their Ultimate before the enemy, which is usually enough to guarantee a win on the spot. Dunlingr does hard counter Thador, but especially in Supreme Arena, if Dunlingr is being used against your Thador team, that means your other teams are free to operate without risk of being shut down by his Anti-Ultimate or Anti-Healing fields. Overall, Thador will always remain relevant in PVP content, at least until a better energy-boosting hero comes along.
Thador is not usable at 1 dupe, as the most important aspect of his kit is unlocked at Mythic+.
Legendary+ makes him tankier.
Mythic+ gives his Ultimate a big Physical & Magic DEF debuff when cast for the first time, and deals extra damage.
EX+10 allows Thador to grant his lieutenant 350 Energy at the start of battle.
Supreme+ gives him some passive healing as long as his lieutenant is alive.
Thador is fine at Mythic+ EX +10 for PVE content, and to some extent can still be used in PVP at that low investment, for his Energy boosting niche, but he will benefit from more dupes to stay alive longer due to extra stats and get the passive healing from S+.
Thador is a good jack-of-all-trades Tank, providing a little bit of everything, be it Shields, healing, damage, debuffs or buffs, but he would not really be worth considering if it wasn’t for providing energy at the start of battle, that alone makes him worth pulling up to Mythic+. Pull for him if you wish to better support Ultimate-reliant heroes and hyper-carries, safe to skip if you don’t care much for PVP.
Energy boost at the start of battle means he will stay relevant for a long time.
Works fine at Mythic+.
Does not require high EX weapon investment.
Crit synergy.
Not Tanky enough to Solo Tank.
Low Damage.
Countered by Dunlingr.
Crit archetype does not have a good enough hyper-carry yet.
