Blue Protocol: Star Resonance Tier List

At the time of release, when viewing Chaotic Realm, most Specs are roughly on par when it comes to average performance, with a few DPS and Sustain outliers. With that said, that does not mean the specs are all identical. Check out our individual spec rankings to understand the strengths and weaknesses for each. Alternatively, check out our What Class to Play guide for a comparative breakdown between each at the time of release:

Specs & Classes

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance features eight classes at release, each with two specializations. Each spec plays drastically differently from each other, even within the same class. For this reason, this Tier List rates character Specs instead of Classes, as what each spec provides or is good at is not always the same.

Game Modes

At the time of release, Blue Protocol: Star Resonance features only one challenging PVE game mode - Chaotic Realm, the game's version of 5-man group content. However, a few weeks after release, an additional endgame mode, Dragon Raids (20-man raids), will become available. What is effective and valued in Dragon Raids is not the same as in the Chaotic Realm. Here are the differences:

  • Chaotic Realm highly values:
    • Controlling and gathering effects.
    • A balance of strong AoE and Single-Target damage.
  • Dragon Raids highly values:
    • Pure single-target damage output.
    • Team and Raid-wide utility effects.

For this reason two two-tier lists are available, as a class that’s valued in one type of content isn’t guaranteed to be in the other.

Balance Changes, New Content, P2W, Gear levels & Scaling

As an MMO, Blue Protocol: Star Resonance frequently receives balance updates and new content that empower or diminish some specs. Also, unlike other MMOs, the range of gear and power available to players is not always equal when considering systems like high advancement Imagines. Finally, not all Specs scale the same - some gain far more from high stats than others. Because of these factors, the tier list can and will change after new content, and where characters are placed may not exactly match the gear or spending level you fall within.

Categories

Each Tier List is divided into three categories based on each of the three roles: Sustain, DPS, and Tank.

  • Sustain - Specs within the sustain category's primary role is keeping the tank and party alive, either through shielding or more frequently healing.
  • DPS - Specs within the DPS category’s primary role is to deal as much AoE and Single-Target damage as possible.
  • Tank - Specs within the Tank categories' primary role is to ensure all enemy attention is on them while surviving effectively.

Criteria
  • Character Level 60.
  • All Talent points allocated.
  • All gear Embedded with correct stats.
  • All gear Legendary Ilvl 140.
    • Includes 4 pieces of set gear, and Relic Weapon.
  • All Gear 100% Perfection.
  • One Advancement 5 Epic Imagine or or One Advancement 2 Legendary Imagine.
  • One Advancement 0 Legendary Imagine.
  • All Gear Refinement Lv20+
  • One Lvl 6 Extreme Module or Two Lvl 6 Modules.
  • 50% of gear has optimal Purple Stats.
  • Character rotations are executed well, but within an average expected skill level.
  • Dream Level 70.
  • Recommended Psychoscopes used.
  • Level 6 Phantom Factors.

Specs are compared within their own role, with each category possessing different traits that contribute to them being or not being high tier.

DPS
  • Chaotic Realm & Stimen Vaults: Rating influenced by ability to deal strong AoE and Single-Target damage, as well as group utility such as party buffs, gathering, and controlling abilities.
  • Dragon Raids: Rating influenced by specs' maximum single target potential and Raid/Party-wide offensive utility and buffs.
Tank
  • Chaotic Realm & Stimen Vaults: Rating influenced by ability to survive, gather, and control large amounts of enemies at once while still possessing competence in boss encounters.
  • Dragon Raids: Rating influenced by specs' ability to survive large hits, mitigate damage, and provide Group/Raid-wide defensive utility.
Sustain
  • Chaotic Realm & Stimen Vaults: Rating influenced by ability to single-handedly keep multiple players alive at once while outputting damage themselves or providing team-wide offensive/defensive utility.
  • Dragon Raids: Rating influenced by specs' ability to keep large groups of players alive, increase maximum survivability via shielding or mitigation, and tools to increase raid-wide damage output.
Universal criteria affecting ratings
  • Difficulty vs Performance: Some specs perform far better at a lower average skill level, increasing their average performance across most players, raising their tier list placement as a result.
  • APM: Blue Protocol: Star Resonance has no global cooldown, and all abilities must be manually input. This means, when not considering auto-play, Ping becomes a major player for performance. Some specs suffer more than others from this, reducing their performance for players with higher-than-average ping.

With the release of Season 2, we're updating our Chaotic Realm tier list again - we're adding Stimen Vaults to be taken into consideration alongside Chaotic Realm and updated all criteria (check them in the tabs above). Here's the list of changes:

  • Frostbeam T0 → T1 - Frostbeam still provides amazing crowd control and deals great AoE damage, but in comparison to its Frost Lance spamming counterpart, it doesn’t perform quite as well. Frost Mages will still remain a staple in any multi-enemy content.
  • Icicle T1 → T0 - Quite a few things changed for the better with Icicle. Life Wave is significantly easier to activate in Season 2; the Luck Factors and Psychoscopes help with Icicle’s damage, and their rotation is affected by attack speed. The combination of these has made Icicle one of the best DPS in Season 2. Additionally, for more difficult content, switching out Blizzard for Frost Shelter isn’t as much of a loss as previously.
  • Vanguard T0 → T1 - With the Season 2 balance patch, both Wind Knights are great options to have when it comes to DPS. Vanguard gets access to some great damage boosts via Psychoscopes and Factors, and it is able to take advantage of some of the buffing talent nodes more easily because of them. However, it can’t take advantage of Life Wave in the same way as the other strong DPS this season. This puts it in a solid spot in T1.
  • Skyward T1 → T0 - The Season 2 update makes it so that Skyward no longer wants to take the party-wide Haste buff on its ultimate, but as a trade-off, it can actually take good advantage of the Luck stat that it has been avoiding. It is also one of the best classes at taking advantage of the Expertise Psychoscope, which is a majority of its damage sources. This, in combination with being a crit class that can take good advantage of Life Wave, puts it solidly in T0.
  • Moonstrike T0 → T1 - Moonstrike is another DPS class that can take advantage of the Luck Psychoscope and deals a ton of damage because of it. It deals good damage, but since the recent balance patch, it is outclassed by a couple of other classes. It still consistently does a bit more than its Stormblade counterpart, but only by a small margin.
  • Iado T1 (No changes) - Iado plays a bit differently in Season 2 but remains focused on its big-burst windows. Since it doesn’t deal much damage outside of burst windows, it can fall short compared to some other options. However, it has the tools to reduce the downtime and return to the burst window sooner, making it a solid DPS to play in Season 2.
  • Wildpack T1 (No changes) - Wildpack thrives in situations where other classes don’t have all their substats yet, but in Season 2, that's less common. The addition of the Phantom Factors and Psychoscopes still provides a good buff to Wildpack’s damage, and it still has great AoE compared to its bird taming counterpart.
  • Falconry T1 (No changes) - It can finally be said that Falconry is better than Wildpack in some situations, mainly single-target focused ones. With this in mind, Season 2 has also buffed their AoE damage and provided some good quality of life for Falconry enjoyers. Additionally, Falconry aligns well with the current meta of using Life Wave to buff their main scaling substat as high as possible, which solidifies it among the other DPS in T1.
  • Block T0 (No changes) - Block Heavy Guardian gets rewarded for using its flexible kit via the Phantom Factors available. It also deals good damage with the combination of the tank Psychoscope and the Imagines that convert defense to damage. Additionally, Block doesn't slow down during boss fights but instead soars. It has high break bar damage and great damage reduction, making it nearly impossible to kill. It still has the highest effective HP of any of the tanks due to its built-in damage reduction as well, putting it solidly in T0.
  • Earthfort T1 (No changes) - Earthfort maintains its identity as a solid tank. It has a large shield that acts as its damage reduction and secondary HP pool, and it utilizes these tools just as well in Season 2. Dungeon mobbing can still be a bit tricky if the enemies hit hard enough to pop your shield and leave you vulnerable.
  • Shield T0 → T1 - Shield Spec functions very similarly to Earthfort in its strengths and weaknesses, with a majority of its damage reduction and tankiness coming from its overshield. Whenever it loses this overshield, it is very vulnerable, and this can occur when taking a lot of hits from enemies.
  • Recovery T2 (No changes) - Recovery remains in the same tier because, although tank damage has been boosted via all of the systems in Season 2, the same issues still remain. The identity of recovery is that it is attempting to be a hybrid healer, but it falls short in this role and could use a bit of help in that regard. This, in combination with not being able to take good advantage of the season 2 imagines for damage (due to needing Tempest Ogre for gathering), is what places Recovery at T2.
  • Lifebind T1 → T0 - While Lifebind was already a strong healer and decent buffer, that's where its good qualities ended. Well, in Season 2, that is turned on its head! The set bonus provided in Season 2 allows for Lifebind to manipulate the party’s HP by giving them max HP, which can proc the Life Wave module. The sole existence of this set bonus has made certain builds and substat thresholds for DPS more viable. Creating a meta entirely based around having this class is what puts it solidly into T0.
  • Smite T2 → T0 - From the ashes, Smite rises! Season 2 provides a major quality of life to smite in its factors, and the set bonus finally leans properly into its shielding. Smite can provide excellent shielding (up to 50% of the player’s HP), deal great damage (on par with or better than dissonance), and provide upkeep healing even during downtime. It is, hands down, one of the strongest healers in the meta now.
  • Dissonance T0 → T1 - Dissonance maintains its great damage, and the healing that is provided from that damage. In Season 2, one of the main builds was nerfed in favor of forcing players to play the Center Stage build. While this is still a viable option, it does less damage and healing than before with the pure Encore Strings build. Dissonance still has its niche when players want to break enemies and bosses quickly, and it still performs well in full or high uptime fights. It is outclassed by Smite ever so slightly in damage, and definitely so in sustain (a lack of shielding hurts Dissonance here). These qualities are what have landed Dissonance in T1.
  • Concerto T1 → T2 - Concerto provides very strong buffs still in Season 2. Our stats have climbed even higher, meaning their main stat buff has too, in addition to being able to buff elemental damage via one of the factors. However, the main job of a healer is to heal, and the dungeons in Season 2 do more damage and have more mechanics than those in Season 1. This can lead to some situations, similar to higher master modes in season 1, where Concerto cannot sustain the party as well as other healers.
31.11.2025

With the addition of level 80 gear comes our first major changes to the tier list! Some classes gain access to more stats, allowing them to shine more in the end-game dungeons and raids.

Chaotic Realm:

  • Frostbeam T1 → T0 - The crowd control provided, while still being able to deal massive amounts of AoE damage and flex an invulnerability skill, takes this class to the next tier. Additionally, as we climb higher into master modes, groups would be remiss to not have one of the Frost Mages.
  • Vanguard T1 → T0 - Despite both Wind Knights being neck and neck when it comes to DPS, we ended up placing Vanguard higher than Skyward in this scenario. The main reason for this is that Skyward is a little more complicated to play and position, along with having a non-preferred thumbs-up stat. In our eyes, this meant that players making the decision about which WK to play would have a better time choosing Vanguard despite the higher APM.
  • Moonstrike T1 → T0 - The additional stats provided with level 80 gear allow this class to properly hit all of its thresholds and still diversify into other damage-increasing substats. Although this is true of Iado as well, we feel that Moonstrike is capable of taking better advantage of this at a lower investment level.
  • Wildpack T0 → T1 - While this class has been on top for quite some time, it is not the king anymore. Due to stat oversaturation from all of the buffs that it has in its base kit, the value of the additional stats from 80 gear is diminished enough that other classes will outshine it at similar levels of investment.
  • Block T1 → T0 - The pitfalls that arose from a lack of luck are no longer prevalent, leading this class to become one of the best and most flexible tanking options for dungeons.
  • Shield T1 → T0 - We underrated this in our initial examination of the classes; it performs better than Recovery in every scenario.
  • Recovery T1 → T2 - We overrated this class a bit; it doesn’t provide anything additional to the party, nor does it deal significant damage. It is still capable of clearing everything, but it is not the preferred option in any specific scenario.
  • Concerto T1 → T0 - This class is an excellent healer at this stage in the game and provides massive damage increases to the party’s DPS players. The main concern prior to level 80 gear was being able to upkeep Healing Melody for extended periods of time, but with enough crit, that is no longer an issue.

Raids:

  • Vanguard T1 → T0 - In all of our testing and experience, Vanguard is performing higher than we first thought and is pushing extremely similar, if not slightly better numbers than Skyward in most cases. With it having the same party utility as it takes more often than Skyward, it sits above its counterpart easily.
  • Frostbeam T2 → T1 - This class performs better than we initially thought, and will be only slightly worse than Icicle at this gear range.
  • Recovery T1 → T2 - We overrated this class a bit; it doesn’t provide anything additional to the party, nor does it deal significant damage. It is still capable of clearing everything, but it is not the preferred option in any specific scenario.
  • Block T3 → T2 - The main issue with this class in the early game was a lack of consistent mitigation and a fear of being one-shot by tank mechanics. Since this is largely not a concern anymore, we are moving the class up a tier. It is still capable of clearing everything, but is not the preference in any specific scenario due to providing less damage than other tanks and no party utility.
  • Lifebind T3 → T2 - This class is excellent at keeping people alive and doesn’t provide much else to the alliance. But, since Nightmare modes do not contain a revive, and this class doesn’t need any particular Imagines, it is the easiest healer to use Airona on. This, in combination with it fulfilling its function well, moves it up on the tier list.
