Sotheby is a 6 rarity character from the Plant afflatus who deals Reality damage and belongs to the Survival class.

A niche Healer who focuses on over-time effects. She can inflict loads of Poison, and can apply Cure for healing-over-time. Her primary issue is that her Cure healing takes effect only after the enemies have moved that turn, making it feel tricky and less effective than a regular healing. This issue is reduced once she reaches Insight 3, but that also makes her more AP-greedy than other healers since she needs to use more than one card for an urgent healing.

Review

With a kit revolving around damage over time and healing over time, Sotheby is a unique healer that requires some planning around and build up in battle to be effective. Her first skill, “Triple the dose!” inflicts [Poison] that lasts from two to five rounds, while her second skill, “Concentrated Essence!” gives all allies [Cure] that lasts two rounds. While the efficacy of a single use of each of these skills may not be impressive, [Poison] can accumulate multiple stacks, and [Cure] can give players a bit of leeway due to its over-time nature.

When comparing Sotheby to other healers, she’s definitely the weakest of the bunch at early levels. Due to her low base multipliers and the fact that her [Cure] only takes effect at the end of the round, or in other words, after everyone (including enemies) have acted. Without careful planning, any team may be caught off guard and killed way before the healing takes effect. To balance out this weakness, a timely use of her Ultimate is essential. “Mix Them All Up!” not only deals damage to all enemies, but also triggers all stacks of both Poison and Cure.

When using Sotheby, it's advised that the player pay attention to the flow of battle in order to better manage Sotheby's role in the team. Trying to cover all fronts makes her quite AP hungry. Sotheby also has great synergy with teammates whose skills have extra effects when attacking targets under negative statuses, as after Insight 1, she can easily keep stacks of Poison nearly always up. The same applies for allies who need to be under a positive status to proc their skill's passives, as [Cure] counts for that. Finally, Insight 3 addresses another of Sotheby's weaknesses, adding another layer of Cure to “Concentrated Essence!” that takes effect immediately instead of only at the end of the round.

Her main synergies include Jessica, Getian, Marcus and Bkornblume. Sotheby can be unexpectedly effective on certain raids as well, since some bosses require taking several hits to disable a buff or layer of protection. For that purpose, Sotheby's DoT with poison comes in handy. The same can be said of stages with a similar mechanic outside Mane's Bulletin, such as some UTTU or Limbo challenges.

Pros

  • A very complete healer and support, Sotheby can keep constant healing, damage and negative statuses.

  • Great synergy with any character who takes advantage of enemies having some sort of negative status.

  • Can be a “Blasphemer of Night” enabler.

Cons

  • Rather weak in Early game, as her base multipliers are very low.

  • Can be AP-hungry due to her stack-based gameplay.

  • Requires more care with her card management and ultimate use than most characters.
