For an SR, Rin’s damage potential is incredible, making her comparable to the better SSR DPS on launch.

Let's go over her skills:

  • Her S1 has a good base multiplier, while having a huge damage increase if she outspeeds her target.

  • Her S2 does as good of damage, while also having a chance to inflict SPD-, synergizing well with the rest of her kit and crippling most Bosses’ SPD.

  • Rin’s S3 is an AOE that also buffs her SPD. This SPD+ buffs all her skills, as the S1, S2 and S3 get different DMG buffs depending on her SPD and how high it is. Overall, she is a very solid ST and AOE DPS with a very useful debuff on top.

Rin is going to benefit the most from offensive buffers and turn meter boosts, allowing her to capitalize as much as possible on chaining her attacks continuously.

Debuffers that reduce DEF or apply other sources of damage increase are excellent with her too, and in manual other SPD buffers can be paired with her to great effect: you can rotate the S2 on Lily and the S3 of Rin to have close to 100% uptime on the SPD buff, therefore letting Rin’s damage constantly being boosted.

In PVP, don’t sleep on Rin the Unbowed’s AOE Burst potential, as with a proper setup, her damage is staggering, being able to one-shot pretty much any DPS if she gets to go first with a simple ATK+ or another source of DMG Increase.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Top of the line Damage, especially for a SR.

  • All of her skills are good, which means that no turn is ever “wasted”.

  • Works in sustained ST, sustained AOE, and also Burst AOE.

Cons

  • Requires excellent gear, as you’re looking for DMG sets with high SPD on each piece.

  • Needs levels on all skills to realize her potential.

Best Build

The builds below are tailored more toward PVE and we only mention PVP in some places - like for alternative Shells or Module choices. But PVE is our focus.

Best Shells

For some DPS characters, we're showing two set of numbers. The top one on shows the performance in single-target scenario and the bottom on blue background in AoE scenario (4 targets). If there's just one number, it means the character only has single-target capability.

1

After the main body acts, it performs a [Follow-up Attack] on the primary target, dealing 2 instances of 110% damage each. If a [CRIT] occurs, it increases the main body Animus’s [CRIT DMG] by 10%, up to a maximum of 8 stacks.

Consistent option for most DPS characters when it comes to raw damage output. Deals 2 sizable hits on a 3 turn cooldown and grants a relatively quickly stacking buff amounting to 60% CRIT DMG once fully charged. Also has more flexible DPS matrixes than other options thanks to it possessing 12P Swiftrush.

Rin wants an offensive Shell that allows her to use Swiftrush which narrows her options down to pretty much just White Fang unless you're able to maintain higher SPD than enemies when using Momentum, Keeneye or Onslaught Matrix Sets, which is needed to activate her Damage boost on S1.

2

Before the main body acts, causes the main Animus to deal additional true indirect damage equal to 12% of the target's max HP with each critical hit during this turn (damage per hit cannot exceed 180% of own ATK). In PVP mode, this will be affected by Etherena Effect - Guardian Field, reducing damage by 30%.

Grants the wearer a buff for one turn on use. While the buff is active, each individual hit of damage dealt by the wearer that critically strikes will cause the target to suffer 12% of their HP as true damage (up to 180% of the wearer's ATK per individual hit). This damage cannot be increased outside of scaling ATK and cannot critically strike itself. Strongest on characters that hit multiple times with abilities, and even stronger in AoE scenarios with multi-hitting abilities. An ability that hits 4 times and hits all enemies (5) can lead to 20 Revelation activations.

Lacks the Swiftrush Matrix, therefore ensuring Rin is faster than enemies to take advantage of her S1's full effect is much more difficult. However if it can be overcome, it is the superior option over White Fang in AoE situations - especially in fights with Resistance mechanics such as DokiDoki.

Stat comments

Rin has four stats to pay attention to across gear:

  • CRIT Rate: Even as a SPD scaler, maxing out Rin's CRIT RATE to 100% is essential for ensuring her damage is at its highest. We recommend building enough CRIT RATE to reach 100% even against at least neutral enemies.
  • SPD: SPD is Rin's signature stat - building it not only increases the frequency she can perform actions in a fight, but also applies a massive DMG% to her Ultimate and Skill while also being a key factor in allowing her Basic Attacks to be boosted by 50% DMG. It goes with out saying while you're capping out your CRIT RATE be on the look out for as much Speed as possible - it's by far her best stat in all but single action burst scenarios.
  • Crit DMG: After you've capped out your CRIT RATE and soaked up as much SPD as possible CRIT DMG is the next best stat for Rin to invest into when increasing her damage, aim for as much as possible.
  • ATK%: While CRIT DMG holds an edge over ATK% in terms of DPS gains ATK% is still valuable. While picking up CRIT DMG aim for ATK% as well if possible.

Slot 2
SPD > CRIT RATE = CRIT DMG
Slot 3
Odd DMG% > DMG%
Passive comments
  • Slot 1: ATK% is optimal, but if you're lacking in materials Flat ATK can also be used.
  • Slot 2: If you're planning on cycling Rin multiple times in fights SPD is often the best DPS choice but if you have team mates to solve her Speed requirements CRIT RATE or DMG is preferable.
  • Slot 3: Odd DMG% is optimal, but if you're lacking in materials generic DMG% can also be used.

Comments

Level Rin's S3 to level 5 first - the SPD+ buff it grants is essential to her damage and kit, and without maxing it out you wont have it up permanantly (with it you do).
