Reunion of All the Fallen

Golden Reflux

  • Flash toward the target and deal Spectro DMG. Inflict Tune Strain - Shifting on the target hit for 25s.

  • Golden Reflux has 2 charges.

  • Can be cast in mid-air.

Aureole of Execution

  • Casting Basic Attack Stage 4 or Mid-air Attack Stage 3 replaces Resonance Skill with Aureole of Execution, which deals Basic Attack DMG and inflicts Tune Strain - Shifting on the target hit for 25s.

  • Aureole of Execution has 3 forms, including Aureole of Execution: Ring, Aureole of Execution: Breach, and Aureole of Execution: Glare.

  • Casting any form of Aureole of Execution grants 1 stacks of Endnotes on the Endgame and switches Aureole of Execution to the next form in sequence.

  • Switching to another Resonator resets the cycle of Aureole of Execution and Resonance Skill is reset to Golden Reflux.

  • Can be cast in mid-air.

Aureole of Execution: Ring

  • Deal Spectro DMG, and reset the Mid-air Attack cycle to Stage 1.

  • The next Normal Attack triggers Basic Attack - Golden Impale.

  • Basic Attack - Golden Impale is no longer available if Dodge Counter is cast in mid-air or Luuk Herssen is switched out in the duration.

Aureole of Execution: Breach

  • Spin and dash forward, dealing Spectro DMG to enemies along the path and resetting the Mid-air Attack cycle to Stage 1. Then, hurl out an Ichor Blade.

  • The next Normal Attack triggers Basic Attack - Golden Impale.

  • Basic Attack - Golden Impale is no longer available if Dodge Counter is cast in air or Luuk Herssen is switched out in the duration.

Aureole of Execution: Glare

  • Hurl out Solid-State Ichor, dealing Spectro DMG and forming an Ichor Deposit on the ground.

Basic Attack - Golden Impale

  • Flash toward the target and deal Spectro DMG, considered Basic Attack DMG.

Aureate Judge

  • With full Ichor Flow, enter the Aureate Judge state. In this state, Luuk Herssen gains the following effects:

    • Ichor Flow does not restore. The DMG Multipliers of all forms of Resonance Skill Aureole of Execution increase by 110%.

    • Casting Aureole of Execution: Glare increases the DMG Multiplier of the next Mid-air Attack - Gavel of Earthshaker and Ichor Deposit DMG by 110%.

    • 100 points of Ichor Flow is consumed each time Resonance Skill Aureole of Execution is cast.

    • Aureate Judge ends when Ichor Flow depletes.

Golden Rule

  • When Luuk Herssen is in the team, all other Resonators in the team gain Golden Rule. When Resonators with Golden Rule cast Outro Skill and the incoming Resonator is Luuk Herssen, remove all Golden Rules on Resonators in the team and grant Luuk Herssen 200 points of Ichor Flow and 12 points of Concerto Energy. Resonators in the team gain Golden Rule again after 24s.

  • This effect does not apply in Co-op Mode.

Dawnlit Keep

  • Luuk Herssen gains 1 stacks of Dawnlit Keep when he stays out of combat for over 4s or casts Intro Skill Before Injection of Dawn.

  • Dawnlit Keep is capped at 1 stack. When taking damage from enemies, consume 1 stacks of Dawnlit Keep to reduce the DMG taken by 60% and gain immunity to interruptions for 1s. This effect can be triggered once per second.

Radiant Reave

  • When Luuk Herssen performs Dodge in mid-air, he briefly stays airborne and hurls out an Ichor Blade.

  • Luuk Herssen consumes STA continuously while airborne.

  • If Luuk Herssen is launched into mid-air, press Dodge before landing to trigger this effect, up to 3 times. When he is on the ground or switched out for more than 3s, the trigger count is reset.

Ichor Blade

  • Deal fixed Spectro DMG, considered Basic Attack DMG that is not affected by any DMG Bonus. Only one Ichor Blade can exist at a time. It cannot trigger Counterattack.

  • Ichor Blade cannot be launched without a nearby target.

  • Ichor Blade disappears when Luuk Herssen casts other skills that deal damage or leaves the field.

Ichor Flow

  • Luuk Herssen holds up to 300 points of Ichor Flow.

  • Normal Attacks, Resonance Skill Golden Reflux, Resonance Skill Aureole of Execution, Basic Attack - Golden Impale, and Mid-air Attack - Gavel of Earthshaker restore Ichor Flow on hit.

Silent Debate of Light

Luuk Herssen can inflict Tune Strain - Shifting on targets.

Luuk Herssen can respond to Tune Strain - Interfered.

When responding to Tune Strain - Interfered: For each stack of Tune Strain - Interfered on the target, each point of Luuk Herssen's Tune Break Boost increases his total DMG against the target by 0.12%. While Luuk Herssen is in the team, the max stack limit of Tune Strain - Interfered on a target is increased by 1.

When the target's Off-Tune Level is full, Luuk Herssen can cast Tune Break on the target.

Inherent Skill

Pulses Under the Snow

When Resonators in the team directly damage and defeat targets, if the targets are affected by Tune Strain - Interfered:

  • If Luuk Herssen has no Perpetuating Daytime, gain stacks of Perpetuating Daytime equal to the stacks of Tune Strain - Interfered.

  • If Luuk Herssen already has Perpetuating Daytime, and the target's stacks of Tune Strain - Interfered exceed the current stacks of Perpetuating Daytime, increase Perpetuating Daytime's stacks to match the target's Tune Strain - Interfered stacks.

Perpetuating Daytime

  • When Resonators in the team casts Tune Break, if the target is affected by Tune Strain - Shifting, Luuk Herssen loses all stacks of Perpetuating Daytime, then apply equal stacks of Tune Strain - Interfered on the target, up to the target's current Tune Strain - Interfered stack cap. Cooldown: 1s.

  • Luuk Herssen loses all stacks of Perpetuating Daytime and will not be able to obtain any new stacks when knocked out.

  • Perpetuating Daytime stacks up to 2 times.

Inherent Skill

Uncaused Diagnosis

When Luuk Herssen's skills directly damage targets affected by Tune Strain - Interfered, every 10 points of Tune Break Boost he has Amplifies this instance of damage by 5%, up to 30%.

After any nearby Resonator in the team inflicts Tune Strain - Shifting on the enemies or deals Tune Break DMG, Luuk Herssen's ATK increases by 25% for 20s.

Sequence Node 4

After a Resonator in the team deals Tune Break DMG, all Resonators in the team deal 20% more DMG for 20s. This effect is unstackable.

S5

Sequence Node 5

Intro Skill Before Injection of Dawn and Outro Skill Bow to the Last Light gain 80% DMG Bonus.

Resonance Skill Golden Reflux has its DMG Multiplier increased by 50% and Cooldown reduced by 2s, and gains 1 more charge.

S6

Sequence Node 6

When nearby Resonators in the team deal Tune Break DMG, all forms of Resonance Skill Aureole of Execution, Ichor Deposit, and Mid-air Attack - Gavel of Earthshaker deal 30% more DMG to the target for 25s.

Each stack of Endnotes on the Endgame additionally grants Resonance Liberation Rewritten in Winter's Margins 40% DMG Bonus, up to 120%.

When Luuk Herssen deals damage to targets inflicted with Tune Strain - Interfered, the stack count of Tune Strain - Interfered on the target is increased by 2. This effect ignores the max stack limit.

Please keep in mind Wuthering Waves is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Wuthering Waves is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.

DPS

Tower of Adversity

Whimpering Wastes

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Strong damage in a mid-air combat style, which makes it fairly easy to avoid a good amount of enemy attacks;

  • One of the most accessible DPS in the game by far, able to function very well with a permanently obtainable weapon and teammates;

  • Super easy to understand, pick up, and optimize. Has one of the lowest barriers to entry in terms of optimization ceiling in the game.

Cons

  • A focus on mid-air combat means enemies hitting Luuk out of the air can be especially bad. Make sure to be careful when engaging and dodge so you don’t plummet down;

  • If Luuk swaps out of his rotation at any point, his kit completely stops functioning - quickswap is a strict impossibility as a playstyle;

  • Outro buffs will almost certainly expire if you don’t use Dash Cancels on his Golden Impale attacks to shorten his rotation - while it’s not a strict necessity with Lynae, it’s vital to keep in mind with Sanhua and is always good to learn regardless of team used;

  • If you wish to use him in his best team, he’s in direct competition with Aemeath who overall has a higher ceiling. His best teammates can easily be stolen away from him for now, so consider that carefully when pulling (although it is worth noting he is easily the best Sanhua user in the entire game).

Review

Luuk Herssen is a 5-star Spectro Gauntlets Main DPS character whose kit revolves around aerial combat and building up to his very strong single-hit Ultimate nuke. Luuk’s best combat playstyle is to attack enemies in mid-air to build up his enhanced skills to eventually lead to an enhanced plunging attack which will empower his Ultimate by a massive amount, which he can then unleash on the enemies for a massive blast of damage (it is indeed one of the strongest Ultimate nukes in the game by far, competing with characters like Aemeath with her second Ultimate and Jinhsi’s Skill). Let’s look into the specifics of how to make that happen:

Key Mechanics

Luuk’s most important mechanic to keep in mind when rotating by far is his Golden Rule mechanic. This is a kind of buff related to Luuk that’s given to other teammates on a 24-second cooldown following his Intro. It is, in fact, triggered by his Intro and will cause him to start with a full Forte bar when rotating. This is extremely important and vital to his rotation, as he needs to consume his Forte bar in order to use his enhanced Skills which enhance his Ultimate’s damage multiplier, allow him to access his special plunging attack called “Gavel of Earthshaker” and also increase the damage of that same plunging attack. Overall, it’s very important to keep in mind Luuk will only ever rotate on this 24-second cooldown basis (although realistically it’ll be a 25-second cooldown instead since that’s his Ultimate’s cooldown duration). It also gives him the extra Concerto needed to get his Outro off after performing his full rotation, so overall it’s very important to keep in mind that Luuk operates on the cooldown of Golden Rule.

Other than this, his most important mechanic is that in order to empower his Ultimate, he needs to cast 3 enhanced skills that he gets by consuming his Forte; in order they are Ring, Breach and Glare. Glare also allows him to cast his Gavel of Earthshaker plunging attack which deals a lot of damage on its own, so most of Luuk’s damage is locked behind actually casting those 3 Skills. He accesses them by casting 3 mid-air attacks consecutively. All 3 skills provide a total of 75% multiplier increase to his Ultimate which, as you can probably guess, is huge.

In other words, by these factors alone, it is very easy to guess Luuk’s kit summarizes to every 25 seconds, cast his Intro and do a rotation composed of 3 strings of 3 mid-air attacks, 3 skills, a plunging attack and finish it off with his Ultimate. But you can optimize a bit further by looking into the finer details of his kit, so let’s have a look at that.

Rotation Details

Luuk possesses 2 different strings of Mid-air Attacks that he can use. One is his Dissection string activated by pressing Basic, and the other is his Resection string activated by pressing Jump. Which one is better? While the Basic string is very slightly shorter (by a difference of a few frames), the Jump string deals slightly more damage per rotation and generates slightly more Energy. Overall, the Jump string is hence slightly better for total damage per rotation and even considering the extra time, that makes it the better one to use generally.

Additionally, after he casts his Ring and Breach skills, he also gains access to a special Basic Attack called Golden Impale. While this sounds good on paper, it doesn’t deal more damage than even his 3rd Mid-air Attack, which is actually really low amounts of damage. The animation, on the other hand, takes a while to execute and can make his rotations really tight for buff uptime purposes. For this reason, since we have to cast Golden Impale to access his next Mid-air Attack string following the Golden Impale cast, it’s optimal to cast it and then dash out of it in order to access the next Mid-air Attack string quicker. This ensures Luuk retains all character buffs in the team throughout his whole rotation (and most importantly his huge Ultimate blast at the end of it) against all kinds of enemies in the game (unless he gets interrupted too much, but dodging out of the way is very much a possibility using this Dash Cancel technique). In the case of Luuk, it’s particularly important to learn for buff uptime reasons - as we said earlier.

Meta Position & Conclusion

Luuk is overall a very budget-friendly character. While he relies on Tune Strain to activate a lot of his kit’s mechanics and enhance his damage, he can apply it and stack it up fully on his own to a good degree, which makes him very self-sufficient. Other teammates that can play around Tune Strain, such as Lynae and Mornye, are very strong support choices for him due to these mechanics, however they’re not strictly necessary for Luuk to operate well. Indeed, Luuk is one of the most accessible characters in the game, since the permanently accessible 5-star weapon Pulsation Bracer plays into his Basic Attack DMG and Tune Strain-focused playstyle, and the free character Sanhua accessed just via logging in for a few days via a beginner event is a perfectly suitable damage booster for him.

Luuk harbours one of the most accessible playstyles, and while he has limited built-in Interruption Resistance, learning his rotation is not very difficult and he can serve new players as a way to not only get comfortable with team rotations, but his playstyle also heavily incentivizes learning how to dodge out of the way of enemies.

When it comes to the performance granted by players who pick him up and build a team around him, he doesn’t disappoint, rising up to the standard of other modern DPS like Phrolova, Augusta or Galbrena in his premium team, or even Carlotta or Zani in his more accessible teams.

In conclusion, while his multi-wave and AoE capabilities aren’t off the charts, they remain more than usable and his performance against boss enemies is amazing, so he definitely appears on the list of the strongest DPS characters in the game that you can acquire and perform well with, whether you’re more experienced or more casual. Luuk’s accessibility in both investment and playstyle makes him worth considering for a lot of players, beginners and veterans alike, and his performance results definitely make him worth the investment while not overshadowing other modern DPS releases.

Best Weapons

The percentages show the performance of the weapon based on calculations, but in some cases, some weapons might provide additional QOL that can't be quantified and it would push that weapon ahead of others in the priority (and in those cases, we would put that weapon higher).

Luuk Herssen calculations were done using added buffs from the following teammates:

100.00%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 588 | CRIT Rate: 24.3%

Luuk's Signature enables him to gain lots of extra Spectro DMG Bonus, Basic DMG Bonus and DEF Ignore on top of the high ATK and CRIT Rate the weapon gives by default, making it his strongest option by far.

85.70%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 587 | CRIT Rate: 24.3%

Amazing F2P option for Luuk which is accessible via the permanent weapon banner providing him with the same ATK and CRIT Rate as his Signature with a weaker passive that grants him a good amount of Basic DMG Bonus instead. Overall his second best option.

83.40%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 587 | CRIT DMG: 48.6%

Zani's Signature provides Luuk with ATK, CRIT DMG and some DEF Ignore which makes it a pretty good alternative to Pulsation Bracer if you need it (it may also be situationally better via crit-fishing).

80.70%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 500 | CRIT Rate: 36%

80.20%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 587 | CRIT Rate: 24.3%

Simple ATK and CRIT Rate stat-stick for Luuk, who does not benefit from this weapon's Heavy ATK-increasing effects.

74.50%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 587 | ATK: 36.4%

Much weaker permanent option than Pulsation Bracer as it does not provide CRIT as its secondary stat but provides ATK instead, and also provides a worse passive for Luuk's damage overall. Avoid this weapon in favour of Pulsation Bracer if possible.

66.50%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 462 | ATK: 18.2%

Provides a solid amount of ATK while restoring some amount of Energy for Luuk, lowering his Energy needs by a good amount.

65.90%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 412 | CRIT DMG: 40.5%

Since Luuk uses his Ultimate at the end of his rotation, this Battle Pass Exclusive's passive is almost useless for him which makes a lot of options significantly stronger than this weapon on top of its already low Base ATK in spite of its CRIT DMG stat.

63.90%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 412 | CRIT Rate: 20.2%

ATK and CRIT Rate stat-stick for Luuk, who does not benefit from this weapon's Liberation DMG-increasing effects. Much weaker than 5-stars due to a much lower Base ATK.

63.50%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 412 | ATK: 30.3%

While this weapon's passive can theoretically have permanent uptime (which is assumed in these calculations), if any damage is taken Luuk will take a while to refresh the weapon passive's stacks which may make it perform slightly worse than shown. Generally shoot for better options (particularly Pulsation Bracer) if possible.

61.60%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 462 | ATK: 18.2%

Weak ATK stat-stick for Luuk who cannot use this weapon's passive and only gains ATK from it. While this weapon is the best no-gacha choice he has, it is generally strongly recommended to go for Pulsation Bracer at minimum due to its ease of access compared to any options below it (particularly this weapon).

Best Endgame Stats (Level 90)

All recommended endgame stats portray a fairly good quality endgame build as a goal to aim for on most characters. However, don’t treat this as an end-all-be-all, and more of a suggestion.

All stat recommendations are given at S0 for 5-stars, S6 for 4-stars, and free characters (unless specified otherwise), based on total stats in the in-game stat-screen with the character out of combat but also active in the party (and hence some buffs may or may not apply). Any other precision may be directly specified. If not specified, Energy Regen requirements are estimated in the character’s best team.

  • HP: 14500+

  • DEF: 1100+

  • ATK: 2100-3000+

  • CRIT Rate: 65-80%+

  • CRIT DMG: 210-260%+

  • Energy Regen: 118-125%+

    • Lower end estimated in a team with Sanhua+Mornye, higher end estimated with Lynae+Mornye.

Rotation

Luuk wants to use each of his Aureate of Execution Skills after Mid-Air Attacks to gain Endnotes of the Endgame, powering up his Ultimate. These Skills gain a massive damage increase while is Ichor Flow is full, as this lets him enter the Aureate Judge state, letting him consume Ichor Flow for damage increases. He has only 1 real rotation with slight deviations.

Additional information

The numbers below show the character's DPS (Damage Per Second) and DMG (total damage done). When selecting the rotations we prioritized achieving 100 Concerto as fast as possible and once that condition was fulfilled, we focused on maximizing the damage output. As or if new and more optimal rotations are found, we'll update the characters calculations as needed. Listed character calculations are done without buffs or any damage contribution from teammates (full solo). They only include what the character, their Weapon, Echo and gear are capable of during their ideal Burst or Concerto rotation when starting with their Intro and Resonance Liberation available.

Do note that DPS and DMG aren’t perfect metrics for a character’s individual value and should be taken with a grain of salt. Anything pertaining a character’s relevance in the meta is addressed in our Review and Tier List, which the numbers below shouldn’t be used for as an end-all-be-all to. Instead, DPS and DMG are good metrics for a character’s sequence value and comparison between an individual character’s different rotations. We recommend using those metrics for such purposes.
