Optical Sampling Stage

  • Lynae is in Optical Sampling Stage by default. While in this state, Overflow recovers during certain skills.

Kaleidoscopic Parade

  • Casting Basic Attack - Spark Collision sends Lynae into Kaleidoscopic Parade. In this state, Lynae continuously recovers Lumiflow while moving on the ground or casting certain skills. Lynae will not Walk during this state, and her Running and Sprinting will be replaced by the faster Free Skating and Speed Skating.

Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap

  • While in Kaleidoscopic Parade, with at least 1/3 of the max Lumiflow, Jump is replaced by Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap.

  • Consume 1/3 of the max Lumiflow to deal Spectro DMG. Inflict Photochromic Flux on targets hit. Successful Dodges can be triggered within a certain time after casting this skill. While airborne, Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap chains up to 3 stages. Switching to another Resonator resets the combo.

  • While in combat, each stage of Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap cast recovers 1 point of True Color.

  • Within a certain time after Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap Stage 1 press Normal Attack on the ground to cast Kaleidoscopic Parade - Basic Attack Stage 2.

  • Casting Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap Stage 2 also pulls in nearby targets.

Basic Attack - Iridescent Splash

  • During Kaleidoscopic Parade, when Lynae is in mid-air, holding 3 points of True Color, if Basic Attack - Visual Impact is on cooldown, press Normal Attack or Resonance Skill to deal Spectro DMG, and inflict Photochromic Flux on targets hit.

  • This skill consumes 3 points of True Color.

  • Press Normal Attack within a certain time after this skill to cast Kaleidoscopic Parade - Basic Attack Stage 2

Basic Attack - Visual Impact

  • During Kaleidoscopic Parade, when Lynae is in mid-air, holding 3 points of True Color, if this skill is not on cooldown, press Normal Attack or Resonance Skill to deal Spectro DMG, inflicting Photochromic Flux on targets hit.

  • This skill consumes 3 points of True Color and grants all nearby Resonators in the team 40 points of Tune Break Boost for 30s. Press Normal Attack within a certain time after this skill to cast Kaleidoscopic Parade - Basic Attack Stage 2

Resonance Mode

  • Inflict Photochromic Flux when hitting a target with Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap, Basic Attack - Iridescent Splash, Basic Attack - Visual Impact and Intro Skill - Time to Show Some Colors!.

  • Lynae can switch between Resonance Mode - Tune Rupture and Resonance Mode - Tune Strain:

    • When in Resonance Mode - Tune Rupture, Photochromic Flux inflicts Tune Rupture - Shifting on targets for 25s.

    • When in Resonance Mode - Tune Strain, Photochromic Flux inflicts Tune Strain - Shifting on targets for 25s.

Tune Rupture Response - Spectral Analysis

  • Deal an instance of Spectro DMG, considered Tune Rupture DMG, to targets within range affected by Tune Rupture - Interfered.

Overflow

  • Lynae can hold up to 120 points of Overflow.

  • While in Optical Sampling Stage, Overflow recovers during Basic Attack, Lynae-Style Palettes, Mid-air Attack, and Dodge Counter.

  • When Overflow is full, Basic Attack - Spark Collision becomes available. Exiting Optical Sampling Stage removes all Overflow.

Lumiflow

  • Lynae can hold up to 120 points of Lumiflow.

Colors Never Fade!

After casting Basic Attack - Visual Impact, Lynae leaves Spray Paint on the ground and continuously inflicts Photochromic Flux on targets within the Spray Paint for 5s, triggered once every 2s. When Spray Paint is on the ground, switching to another Resonance Mode doesn't affect the Photochromic Flux effects inflicted by the Spray Paint.

With Lynae in the team, the expedition motorbike's Energy Tank expands by 600 points. Lynae enters Kaleidoscopic Parade automatically while on the expedition motorbike and restores 20% of Lumiflow.

Each stack of Color of Soul increases the DMG dealt through Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap and Basic Attack - Visual Impact by 30%. After casting Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap or Basic Attack - Visual Impact, all stacks of Color of Soul are removed.

Casting Basic Attack - Polychrome Leap resets the charges of Kaleidoscopic Parade - Mid-air Heavy Attack.

Lynae is immune to interruptions and all DMG taken is reduced by 30% during Kaleidoscopic Parade - Mid-air Heavy Attack.

Lynae now stays in Kaleidoscopic Parade after casting Outro Skill - Let's Hit the Road!.

The Lumiflow upper limit is increased from 120 to 360. At the max limit, Lynae's roller skating speed further increases.

If Intro Skill is cast during Kaleidoscopic Parade, restore 120 Lumiflow.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • The best generalist Hybrid buffer in the game, with tons of universal buffs to a single character while dealing a solid amount of personal damage;

  • Doesn’t need her Signature weapon to perform - very F2P friendly;

  • Functions in almost all teams in the game and is the best buffer for a good chunk of them, pushing Liberation damage dealers way up into the meta (as well as other old DPS to an extent).

Cons

  • Next to no room for Swap Cancels, very Intro-dependent, and major abilities have long cooldowns - locked into doing one rotation with near-zero flexibility;

  • Possibility to get interrupted mid-air before S1, particularly during her Visual Impact plunging attack, which represents a lot of her damage.

Review

Lynae is a 5-star Spectro Pistol Hybrid buffer who specializes in… not much, actually. Lynae is quite the generalist buffer, and she’s super good in that role. It’s difficult to overstate her team flexibility and efficiency, aside from certain characters who are overly reliant on one specific partner (Lupa for most Fusion characters, Ciaccona for Cartethyia, Phoebe for Zani, for example), Lynae quite literally buffs everybody and does a fantastic job at it, having a solid amount of personal damage on top. While this won’t make her the best Main DPS, in her role of a secondary buffer, she can provide a lot of value to most accounts, as long as she’s played properly, and there’s no better way to make sure of that than understanding her kit in full, which we will cover below:

Key Mechanics

Lynae is a character with 3 Forte resources she needs to manage: Overflow, Lumiflow, and True Color. Overflow is mostly replenished by her Intro and either a couple of Basic Attacks or a single Skill. Fully building up Overflow allows her to cast a charged Basic Attack called Spark Collision, which then switches her to her Lumiflow state. Lumiflow replenishes over time with no way to boost its generation, but it is also fully replenished by holding Spark Collision to its maximum stage (which requires a few seconds of charging time). Once she has 40 Lumiflow, she can cast a Jump attack called Polychrome Leap. Finally, for each Polychrome Leap, she gains 1 point of True Color up to 3, which are used to cast her big Forte Mid-Air Attack, Visual Impact. This always concludes her rotation.

This essentially covers her gameplay. Beyond everything listed above, her Ultimate has two parts, but only the first one is worth executing since it deals almost all of the damage and doesn’t cost any time while still providing buffs. It will be cast after Intro to ensure buff uptime.

Other than this, Lynae has 2 modes that she can switch between freely in her Forte page out of combat. This means in combat, only 1 of the 2 modes will be available. They are each related to Tune Break: Lynae is indeed capable, via most of her essential attacks, of applying Tune Rupture or Tune Strain, which are her 2 modes. Tune Rupture acts as an extra instance of damage on every Tune Break skill cast, while Tune Strain is an extra DMG Taken increase to characters who can respond to it. Mornye is one such character, as she can cast Tune Ruptures of her own and benefit from the damage increase of Tune Strain, depending on which one Lynae applies for her.

Who does Lynae buff & How?

Lynae can apply the following buffs to characters on her team:

  • With her Outro: 15% all-type DMG Amplification and 25% Liberation DMG Amplification to the next character via Outro (expires on swap);

  • With her Ultimate: 24% party-wide all-type DMG Bonus;

  • Upon casting Visual Impact: 40 points of Tune Break Boost party-wide (this boosts Tune Break-related damage);

  • With her Echo set: a total of 30% ATK and 10% all-type DMG Bonus to the next character via Outro;

  • With her Signature weapon: up to 24% party-wide all-type DMG Bonus.

This totals to 58% DMG Bonus, 30% ATK, 15% All-type and 25% Liberation DMG Amplification to one character. Even without her Signature weapon factored in, on Static Mist (one of the permanent banner Pistols) she trades off 24% DMG Bonus for 10% ATK, which is a negligible loss in team damage.

You may have realized that every single one of Lynae’s buffs are very generally applicable, other than her Liberation DMG Amplification on Outro. Even without this factored in, Lynae stands out as our first-ever generalist Hybrid buffer, capable of buffing almost any Main DPS in the game. Alongside universal Supports like Shorekeeper, Lynae makes for the strongest universal buffing core in the game, capable of interacting with and improving almost any Main DPS’s damage ceiling by highly significant amounts.

Meta Position & Conclusion

If it wasn’t obvious by everything we’ve stated in this review so far, Lynae is one of the strongest meta presences that we’ve ever seen. As the queen of team flexibility in the Hybrid role, while still being even stronger in her specialized Liberation buffing capabilities, even without a specific DPS to associate with Lynae, remains a top-tier meta contender, and it’s by a landslide too. This level of flexibility and general strength in Hybrids is, to put it bluntly, never before seen.

To mention her top team, alongside Iuno and Ciaccona or Shorekeeper she makes for one of the strongest single-target focused teams in the game, literally rivaling the current top meta contender Cartethyia, who up until now was completely unmatched. It seems like Aero DPS characters really can’t stop winning (even if Iuno was intended as a Hybrid herself)!

But that’s not all: Lynae functions very well with a myriad of already successful DPS characters like Carlotta, Phoebe, and Camellya, as well as serving as a perfectly viable replacement to the already established partners to DPS powerhouses like Augusta and even Phrolova, the current best DPS in the game when factoring in all endgame contents.

In conclusion, Lynae is one of the strongest characters Wuthering Waves has ever seen. As we said in the intro to this review, it’s difficult to overstate her team flexibility, and on her release, she appears as one of the strongest contenders in the meta, capable of working exceptionally well with practically any DPS out there. Reminiscent of Shorekeeper in universality, but as a Hybrid buffer instead, on her debut in 3.0 Lynae is easily one of the best Hybrid buffers in the game, with only a bright future to come as more Liberation damage dealers release in the future.

Best Weapons

The percentages show the performance of the weapon based on calculations, but in some cases, some weapons might provide additional QOL that can't be quantified and it would push that weapon ahead of others in the priority (and in those cases, we would put that weapon higher).

Lynae calculations were done using added buffs from the following teammates:

100.00%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 587 | CRIT Rate: 24.3%

Lynae's Signature weapon provides her with a significant boost to her ATK, CRIT Rate and Basic Attack DMG Bonus, while increasing all damage dealt by the team when applying Tune Rupture or Tune Strain. Overall a fantastic choice to buff both personal and team damage at once.

81.50%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 587 | CRIT Rate: 24.3%

While Static Mist provides noticeably less personal damage than other 5-star weapons, it is generally the best choice on Lynae after her Signature as its passive allows her to buff the Main DPS of the team's ATK which is almost always preferable compared to improving her own personal damage.

Strongest no-gacha weapon for most pistol users, granting extra ATK to the wearer practically permanently so long as they don't take any damage. Generally inferior to all above options as it only grants ATK and nothing else.

Best Endgame Stats (Level 90)

All recommended endgame stats portray a fairly good quality endgame build as a goal to aim for on most characters. However, don’t treat this as an end-all-be-all, and more of a suggestion.

All stat recommendations are given at S0 for 5-stars, S6 for 4-stars, and free characters (unless specified otherwise), based on total stats in the in-game stat-screen with the character out of combat but also active in the party (and hence some buffs may or may not apply). Any other precision may be directly specified. If not specified, Energy Regen requirements are estimated in the character’s best team.

  • HP: 12000+

  • DEF: 1150+

  • ATK: 2000-2200+

  • CRIT Rate: 50-80%+

  • CRIT DMG: 250-280%+

  • Energy Regen: 115-130%+

    • Lower end was estimated in a team with Iuno+Ciaccona, higher end was estimated in a team with Xiangli Yao+Shorekeeper. Lynae is, however, very flexible teams-wise, so Energy requirements are highly variable - please keep this in mind.

  • Spectro DMG Bonus: 40-70%+

  • Intro (Cancel animation endlag via Ultimate)

  • Ultimate

  • Skill: Lynae-Style Palettes

  • Heavy: Spark Collision (Full Charge) (Cancel animation endlag via Jump)

  • Jump: Polychrome Leap (3 Times)

  • Basic: Mid-air Attack: Visual Impact

  • Outro

S6 Rotation

Lynae at S6 will start in Lumiflow state on every subsequent rotation, since her Outro doesn’t get rid of this state anymore. This allows her to skip her long Spark Collision attack to instead perform other moves while charging Lumiflow. She also gains additional damage on her Polychrome Leaps and Visual Impact after performing Heavy Attacks, so we can craft a new rotation using these properties as follows:

  • Intro

  • Heavy: Ground Heavy Attack (2 Times)

  • (Release) Graffiti Blast

  • Skill: Additive Color

  • Jump: Polychrome Leap (3 Times)

  • Heavy: Mid-air Heavy Attack (Interrupt via Mid-air Attack around 5 hits)

  • Basic: Mid-air Attack: Visual Impact

  • Ultimate

  • Outro

This overall results in a faster rotation that deals more damage than the standard version, yielding visible improvements in team DPS.

Additional Tips & Tricks

Make sure to never Swap Cancel any ability Lynae casts before she uses her Outro: much like Phoebe, it will cancel any ability she was casting in order to execute the Outro animation instead.

Lynae’s Intro provides her with a ton of Overflow and cannot be skipped in her rotations. Because of this, the only ability she can prepare in quickswap before her Intro is available, is her regular Skill - though this saves roughly a second over indicated rotation times if executable, and should be performed if possible.

Synergies

Lynae is a fantastic general damage buffer for all damage dealers in the game, barring very few exceptions (most importantly characters with the Partner Tag on our Tier List, that tend to rely on specific mechanics provided by teammates like Negative Status that are necessary to be present on the team). While she has synergies that are stronger than others, we decided to make a comprehensive list of all teams where Lynae has high potential as a damage buffer - but know her scope of possible teams can extend even beyond what we show here!

Ciaccona is only better than Shorekeeper with her Signature and a proper build.

Additional information

The numbers below show the character's DPS (Damage Per Second) and DMG (total damage done). When selecting the rotations we prioritized achieving 100 Concerto as fast as possible and once that condition was fulfilled, we focused on maximizing the damage output. As or if new and more optimal rotations are found, we'll update the characters calculations as needed. Listed character calculations are done without buffs or any damage contribution from teammates (full solo). They only include what the character, their Weapon, Echo and gear are capable of during their ideal Burst or Concerto rotation when starting with their Intro and Resonance Liberation available.

Do note that DPS and DMG aren’t perfect metrics for a character’s individual value and should be taken with a grain of salt. Anything pertaining a character’s relevance in the meta is addressed in our Review and Tier List, which the numbers below shouldn’t be used for as an end-all-be-all to. Instead, DPS and DMG are good metrics for a character’s sequence value and comparison between an individual character’s different rotations. We recommend using those metrics for such purposes.

The calculations were done using added buffs from the following teammates:

  • Ultimate
  • Skill: Lynae-Style Palettes
  • Heavy: Spark Collision (Full Charge) (Cancel animation endlag via Jump)
  • Jump: Polychrome Leap (3 Times)
  • Basic: Mid-air Attack: Visual Impact
  • Outro

And here are the Echoes and Weapons used in the calculations.

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 587 | CRIT Rate: 24.3%

2 Set: Spectro DMG +10%.

5 Set: Casting Outro Skill increases the ATK of the incoming Resonator by 15%, with each point of Tune Break Boost additionally increasing ATK by 0.3%, up to 15%. This effect lasts for 15s, or until the Resonator is switched out.
