"Let that twilight burn!"
Laevatain is a Rhodes Island operator who joined Endfield at the Endministrator's direct recommendation. Under the framework agreement between the two companies, she serves as an operator directly under the Endministrator's command.
Before joining Endfield Industries, Laevatain roamed the world alone, pursuing a goal she could call her own. Because of that journey, and her formidable skill in solo combat, people often mistake her for "someone you can't talk to." In truth, the opposite is closer to reality. It's only that her earnest, forthright nature sometimes comes across too strongly, giving rise to misunderstanding.
At times, though, she speaks in ways that confound others, often circling back to the subject of "memory," as if she were purposefully trying to separate herself from who she is. She often wields flames, yet craves ice cream just as much. To her, maybe that contradiction feels perfectly natural.

Umbral Monument
Huge AoE damage.
Outstanding total damage output.
Gains substantially better access to energy and enhanced skills in AoE encounters.
Has a cheat death talent when dropping below 40% HP.
Ultimate reliant.
Poor weapon choices outside of signature and battle pass.
Cannot use the finisher during Ultimate as the main field operator.
Laevatain is a limited 6-star, Heat, Sword, Hyper Carry, which requires team building around her in order to maximize her potential. Laevatain’s Ultimate is at the core of her kit and, on use, allows her to enhance her Basic Attacks and Battle Skill to deal more damage in a huge AoE for 15 seconds. This window is when most of her and her team's damage occurs. What balances this Ultimate is its incredibly high cost, which is 3–4 times as high as that of other characters.
Generating so much energy naturally isn’t easy, but Laevatain’s Talent and Battle Skills solve this. When Basic Attacking, Laevatain converts Heat Infliction on all enemies into a special stacking resource. Upon reaching 4 stacks, she can enhance her Battle Skill to deal more damage and generate absurd amounts of energy. Because of this, Laevatain’s teams and playstyle focus on building and consuming Heat Infliction to enter Ultimate and maximizing damage during its duration.
Despite being an Ultimate-focused operator, Laevatain would never get to use her Ultimate if it weren’t for her Talents. Lae’s most important talent is Scorching Heart, which causes the controlled operator’s Final Strikes/Finishers to absorb Heat Infliction from nearby enemies, converting them into a stackable buff for Laevatain called Melting Flame. Melting Flame stacks up to 4 times and is both a buff that Amplifies Lae’s damage and a resource for her Battle Skill. Each stack of Melting Flame lasts 20 seconds and causes Laevatain to ignore a percentage of enemies' Heat resistance while active.
Note: Laevatain also absorbs Heat Infliction from enemies that are defeated, avoiding wastage.
Laevatain’s other talent is Re-Ignition, which grants her a massive Protection buff and heal over time for a short period after she drops below 40% HP, acting as a sort of cheat death. This talent has a long cooldown, but it will definitely save you at least once from death or a close call per encounter.
Laevatain’s Battle Skill is the main way she generates enough energy to fuel her absurd Ultimate cost. Her skill comes in two different forms: a standard version and an enhanced version. The standard version deals underwhelming damage, generates very little energy, but does grant Lae a stack of Melting Flame. The enhanced version consumes 4 Melting Flame, deals far more damage, and generates a whopping 100 additional energy while also forcibly applying [Combustion] for 5 seconds, immediately enabling her Combo Skill trigger.
The Standard version is rarely worth using over other characters' Battle Skills, which apply Heat Infliction, as those can trigger other characters’ combos and enable other synergies, all while still getting the same Melting Flame stack. The enhanced version, on the other hand, is the backbone of Lae’s energy generation and should be the focus of your entire team composition, as reaching it more quickly means faster Ultimate access.
Last but not least, Lae’s enhanced Battle Skill also becomes further enhanced when using it during her Ultimate, something which may seem wasteful as Laevatain cannot generate energy during her Ultimate, but is actually fine to do. The reason is that even against a single target, Laevatain and her team can usually generate enough Melting Flame to reach 4 stacks twice during an Ultimate as long as there aren’t any interruptions. As her Ultimate makes it so that only heavy-hitting enemy attacks can stagger her, this isn’t too difficult to achieve.
When cast during her Ultimate, it also has the added benefit of pausing its timer, meaning that it does not lead to Lae getting fewer enhanced Basic Attacks as a result. How many enhanced Battle Skills are used during Ultimate often boils down to the team rotation and whether or not Lae can be at or near 4 stacks by the end of it, so as to allow her to build energy back up quickly to cycle back up to another Ultimate quickly.
Note: In multi-target scenarios, you can easily apply and absorb Heat Infliction from many enemies at once, allowing for far more Melting Flame stacks and the possibilities of many more enhanced Battle Skills.
Laevatain’s combo is incredibly important to use whenever available. The reason is that it generates a Melting Flame stack and Grants 25–35 Ultimate Energy on use, both of which are pivotal in accessing her Ultimate in a timely manner. To trigger her combo, the team must inflict Combustion or Corrosion on an enemy, something Laevatain can achieve herself with her Enhanced Battle Skill, but which definitely isn’t reliable or frequent enough to match its short 9-second cooldown.
To get around this, Lae requires the help of her team, so you’ll either need to pair her with allies that force Corrosion/Combustion or trigger it naturally through Arts Reactions, typically at the cost of some Heat Infliction. This may sound like a negative, but is always worth it thanks to the high energy generation of this skill. Like with her Battle Skill, Lae’s Combo Skill will pause the Ultimate timer, meaning that it can be used freely during it.
Laevatain’s Ultimate, Twilight, is the heart of her kit. It costs 300 energy, and on use causes her to become the controlled operator (if she isn’t already) while also enhancing her Basic Attacks and Battle Skill for the next 15 seconds. During these 15 seconds, Laevatain’s basic attacks will be converted into a 4-part combo which becomes huge sweeping AoE attacks, deal substantially more Heat damage, and deal a Heat Infliction on the 3rd hit of each sequence. Assuming no interruptions, Lae can use 4 full enhanced basic sequences all back to back, yielding 4 potential Heat Inflictions!
It’s important to be aware of how the 15-second timer functions, as getting as many attacks in during that period is critical. Skills that will briefly slow down or stop time (like Combo Skill activations, Perfect Dodge effects, and other Operators’ Ultimate cutscenes) will also slow or stop the Ultimate timer. As previously mentioned, Lae’s enhanced Battle Skill and Combo Skill will also pause this while they cast, making them great options to weave in between strings.
Even still, it’s worth trying to minimize unnecessary movement in order to fit as many basic attack sequences in as possible while in the Ultimate state.
Note: Laevatain cannot gain any energy while her Ultimate state is active. Also Laevatain cannot use Finishers on Staggered enemies while her Ultimate state is active, make sure to time its usage around this fact.
Laevatain’s gameplay is incredibly simple:
Keep her combo on cooldown as often as you possibly can by taking advantage of her Battle Skill and spacing it out with allies’ abilities that can forcefully inflict Combust/Corrosion, or by triggering natural Combustion/Corrosion Arts Reactions.
Generate as many Heat Inflictions as possible, then absorb them with Laevatain’s Basic Attacks to accumulate Melting Flame.
Once at 4 Melting Flame, use enhanced Battle Skill to generate energy. Depending on the level of Ultimate energy gain, you’ll often have enough to use Ultimate after 2 casts.
Align ally buffs and use Laevatain’s Ultimate at a period in the fight you expect to be able to deal damage uninterrupted.
During Ult, don’t forget to spend SP on either keeping buffs active or to stack additional Heat Infliction to allow Laevatain to use mid-Ultimate enhanced Battle Skills. Be mindful to balance out in-Ultimate damage with having enough Melting Flame stacks to use a Battle Skill after it in order to re-enter the Ultimate state faster.
Depending on the team you’re playing, there will be even more optimizations. To learn more, check out our teams and synergies section.
Although Laevatain can only get 4 full enhanced Basic Attack sequences with her Ultimate, by Dodge cancelling out of her Basic 2 after the first hit, as well as after her Final Strike, it can be possible to fit in 5 full enhanced Basic Attack sequences instead. But be careful, as cancelling the Final Strike too quickly may result in it not absorbing Heat Infliction stacks!
Laevatain’s Ultimate Energy regen is critical to playing her effectively, so understanding how much you need in certain scenarios is incredibly important when considering what Gear Sets to use on her, specifically whether or not you can give up Ultimate Gain % for more damage and if that trade-off is worth it. The challenging thing about her energy though, is that it changes based on the amount of enemies you’re up against, the amount of Battle Skills your team uses and the amount of Combos per Ultimate you’re aiming for. Against single enemies, Laevatain generates less energy and may want some Ultimate Gain if your goal is the fastest possible Ults. Against multiple enemies though, she gains bonus energy and is less likely to need it unless you’re trying for large breakpoints that involve skipping Combos or Battle Skills.
Below is a collection of tables showing how much energy Lae gains at 0 Ultimate Gain % plus various other breakpoints, in order to show when energy may and may not be needed.
Note: Using additional or fewer team Battle Skills will grant more or less energy, potentially fixing or compromising certain rotations.
The charts below assume aiming for the minimal possible actions to highlight the cases when energy makes a difference.
In practice, meeting such breakpoints may not always be an obvious improvement, as SP Recovery can be a limiting factor. It's important to balance out Laevatain’s Ultimate use with the application of teammate buffs/debuffs, which can slow down rotations. Players are recommended to evaluate whether meeting a breakpoint would meaningfully condense the rotation for a given team (e.g. if getting Ultimate in only 2 Combo Skills instead of 3 is a benefit).

Combo Skill | 2 | 50 |
Team Battle Skill | 4 | 26 |

At 2 targets, a new breakpoint opens up for the energy build, which may be useful, as you no longer need 2 Combo Skills and can get away with 1 instead. In many cases, two Combos may still be used regardless, but there is a potential for optimization present.

Some calculations on this page are done in collaboration with Guobafield (Guoba Certified). Other calculations not in his videos, and any other content (like comments on Weapons, Gear, etc), are our own.
The percentages show the performance of the weapon based on calculations, but in some cases, some Weapons might provide additional QOL that can't be quantified and it would push that weapon ahead of others in the priority (and in those cases, we would put that weapon higher).
The solo percentage shows how the weapon impacts Laevatain performance if you look at their damage in the vacuum, while the team percentage shows the impact of the weapon when taking into account full team, including buffs etc.

Umbral Torch is Laevatain's battle pass weapon, and at maximum copies, is able to compete somewhat with her signature. It has a similar ideal combination of passive intellect, ATK%, and Heat DMG%, but unlike Forborn Scathe, Umbral Torch's weapon passive provides a more modest damage increase while also requiring Combustion or Corrosion to be constantly triggered - something Lae should be doing, but which can experience downtime unless you have multiple sources of application in your team. Calculations have optimal uptime thanks to running Ardelia plus Wulfgard - two consistent appliers of Combustion and Corrosion.
Stat 1 Boost - 9/9
Intellect: +156
Stat 2 Boost - 9/9
Heat DMG Bonus: +43.30%
Passive Boost - 4/9
Attack: +11.20%
At only a single copy, Umbral Torch loses some passive ATK% and a considerable amount of Heat DMG% from its weapon passive effect. Still, even with that considered, it's still a much more attractive choice over a single copy of White Night Nova - Lae's other 6-star option.
Stat 1 Boost - 9/9
Main Attribute: +132
Stat 2 Boost - 9/9
Arts Intensity: +78
Passive Boost - 4/9
Arts DMG Bonus: +19.20%
White Night Nova, despite being a 6-star and having an adaptive main stat, isn't able to compete with Laevatain's options above. The reason for this is that this weapon has many of its bonuses in Arts Intensity- a stat which, for Lae, isn't unusable, but isn't nearly as good as some of her other options (most of her damage isn't Arts burst/reaction).
Stat 1 Boost - 9/9
Intellect: +93
Stat 2 Boost - 9/9
Attack: +23.40%
Passive Boost - 9/9
As a last resort, if you're lacking any of the choices above for the time being, Wave Tide is the most accessible Intellect sword, which also has solid stat bonuses for Laevatain. Use it until you can replace it with one of her higher damage alternatives.

A specialized option for Laevatain's that are building toward very specific energy breakpoints and which comes a very sizable damage sacrifice compared to all damage options. Should only be used if you know the exact breakpoint you're chasing and if you're confident hitting it will be worth the very large damage loss.
The solo percentage shows how the set and gear impact Laevatain performance if you look at their damage in the vacuum, while the team percentage shows the impact when taking into account full team, including buffs etc.
Between the pre-release version of Endfield and 1.0, there was some major balance adjustments. The two major ones that have affected some of the %'s on a few of our build guides are the major buff to Physical Status effects (namely Breach and Crush), and the the nerf to Bonus DMG% vs Staggered gear pieces. All other character buffs/nerfs have also now been factored in but they have minimal impact on %'s. Note - no recommendations have changed as a result of this update, only the relative differences between weapons, sets and pieces was affected.
Arts Intensity +30. When the wearer applies Combustion, Heat DMG +50% for 10s. When the wearer applies Corrosion, Nature DMG +50% for 10s. The aforementioned effects cannot stack.
Hot Work is Laevatain's best set in almost all scenarios thanks to it providing a generic Heat DMG boost via Combustion, which she easily triggers right before her burst thanks to her Enhanced Battle Skill. When running Hot Work, there are several Flex options to consider depending on the content you're facing. It's very important to note though that despite the baseline being the best damage option, it may not be the best for you; check all gear choices to make your decision. To help with this decision, we've calculated both Hot Work set-ups seprately including Lynx Slab and Tide Fall Armor, to give you greater clarity about the potential damage gains/losses vs other benefits.

Tidefall Armour is a slight damage loss over Lynx Slab but grants some extra energy (12.30% Baseline, more with artificing), so whether you should use this or the Lynx Slab set-up will depend on whether or not you think you'll need this energy. To help you make this decision, we've included an Energy Section in Laevatain's review, but we will still touch on it a little here as well. The extent to which Tidefall Armour is helpful or wasted to you depends on how many Battle Skills your team is using and how many Combos Lae is executing between Ultimates in fights. To put it simply, if it takes up to 3 Combos to get to Ultimate - which is common if you're running teams with many buffs/debuffs that need applying - then Laevatain won't usually need Additional Energy as SP Recovery is a greater limiting factor, but if you're running faster paced teams that prefer cycling through Ultimates as fast as possible (Ultimate in every 2 Combos or even 1 in AoE) then you'll want to use this set-up and pick up the Ultimate Gain %.

Requires Gear Artificing to bring her Ultimate Gain Efficiency up to near max, and only recommended with her Signature Weapon. Running no set, full Ultimate Gain Efficiency to double her Energy gain is an unconventional but valid way to build Laevatain, as it has all matching Attributes for her, and it can allow Laevatain to immediately regain her Ultimate back after using Enhanced Battle Skill + Combo Skill, though you will trade more than half of your Enhanced Battle Skill DMG for better Ultimate uptime. Instead, Laevatain can focus on unleashing her Enhanced BATKs, which are massively boosted by her Signature Weapon.

Keep in mind that the gear pieces below are being compared against having nothing equipped on the character at all. This means that in some cases, when you include Weapons, other pieces, outside buffs etc, the values of some pieces may change. For more accurate information, check the section above where we picked the best combination when you look at all pieces equipped.
Pieces marked with a star* can perform better than listed - this applies to:
Improves the damage of Laevatain’s enhanced Battle Skill, while also causing it to return some SP, freeing up additional resources for generating more Heat Infliction stacks or easier access to key team Battle Skills.
A small boost to Intellect and Basic Attack DMG%, nothing game-changing, but an okay all-around damage boost.
Increases the duration and damage of Laevatain’s forcibly applied Combustion through her enhanced Battle Skill. Another small but nice damage boost, which isn’t revolutionary but is a nice bump in performance.
The first of Laevatain’s potentials that has a real impact on her kit. It lowers her Ultimate energy cost by -15%, reducing its energy requirement from 300 to 255, opening up new potential energy breakpoints and the ability to access her Ultimate much more frequently. After unlocking this potential, it usually makes sense to build some amount of Ultimate Gain on Laevatain to allow her to either enter Ultimate with 2 enhanced Battle Skills in quick succession, or a single enhanced Battle Skill plus team energy and some Combo Skills. Something that, before this potential, wasn’t nearly as viable without sacrificing her set bonus or key gear/weapon pieces.
Directly increases the damage of Laevatain’s Ultimate enhanced basic attacks by 20% while also allowing her to extend its duration from 15 seconds up to 22 based on the number of enemies she kills. Each enemy Laevatain defeats during the Ultimate extends the duration by 1 second.
In this section we're showing the team setup used for the above calculations as well as the damage split for Laevatain based on where it comes from. The setup isn't always best in slot for each character and also please keep in mind that with different team members, Weapons, and Gear, the calculations will change.

Ultimate = Battle Skill > Basic Attack > Combo Skill
Teams and Synergies
In single-target battle scenarios, use the rotation as a starting point in order to apply the majority of the team's buffs, build 4 Melting Flame Stacks, cycle through Laevatain's Combo Skill and access her Enhanced Battle Skill quickly. Important to note though, is that if more enemies are present, you'll be able to accumulate Melting Flame more quickly due to Lae's ability to absorb Heat Infliction from all enemies. In these scenarios, feel free to use Lae's Enhanced Battle Skill earlier to accelerate her rotation.
Laevatain's opener isn't enough to access her Ultimate unless you started the fight with energy already, meaning she'll need another round in order to ensure it's available. In normal circumstances, your queue to start the second half of the rotation is when Ardelia's Combo Skill is back up, and Laevatain's Combo is also close to being available again. Before this point, fill the downtime with Basic Attack Sequences to accumulate Stagger and recover SP. When ready, continue with the below rotation:
Note: The Final Strikes at the end of this rotation are there in order to allow Laevatain's Combo to come back off cooldown so you can immediately trigger it with her Enhanced Battle Skill for extra energy and damage. You need this energy if you're not using Ultimate Gain on Laev, but if you are, you can skip these Final Strikes and the third Combo and use her Enhanced Battle Skill as soon as you have the SP after Ardelia's Battle Skill.

How you play within Laevatain's Ultimate state is once again subject to how many enemies are present, what cooldowns you have available, your current SP, whether the enemy/enemies will survive until the Ult ends and how you're playing (are you using animation cancels?). Giving a generalist rotation that takes all this into account at every point of battle is hard, but in general, here is what to look out for:
Wulfgard has a few quirks in this team to be aware of, so you get the most out of him and don't waste SP unnecessarily.

Laevatain's signature is definitely her best option thanks to its passive Intellect, ATK%, and Heat DMG% boosts alongside its enormous triple-digit Basic Attack DMG increase triggered when using her Ultimate. The thing that sets this weapon apart from the rest is the last part. A huge portion of Laevatain's damage during her Ultimate burst window is Basic Damage, and boosting it by such a big amount, for essentially its entire duration, is just too potent for alternatives to easily compete with.
