Mini-review

Jianxin is a 5-star Aero Gauntlet wielder that fits into various roles depending on your need, be it as a Damage Dealer, Hybrid, or most popularly as a Support in endgame content. Despite the diverse choices, the most optimal option is using her as Support which makes ample use of her Ultimate Skill to group up enemies & CC them. This can be followed up quickly by your other characters unloading their AoE skills, making quick work of the enemy, aside from that, she can buff Resonance Liberation damage for the next character by 38% via her Outro Skill. Accordingly, our review will be primarily focused on her role as Support.

Jianxin recharges her Forte Gauge with her Basic Attacks, Resonance Skill and Intro Skill. Once full, her next Heavy Attack is enhanced to Primordial Chi Spiral, a channelled ability that is cast over a period of 6 seconds by holding the Heavy Attack button. It will spawn a large ring around her; within this radius she will deal continuous damage. Additionally, it will emit Zhoutian Pulse a total of 3 times during the skill duration, dealing high damage and shielding Jianxin; every consecutive pulse will deal higher damage and deploy a stronger shield. Using this drains her Forte Gauge slowly, gaining her 50% damage reduction and increased anti-interruption. Jianxin being moved, stunned, or grabbed will cause her to disrupt her skill, instantly reducing her Forte Gauge to 0, regardless of duration remaining.

Her Resonance Skill can be utilized in one of two separate ways. The first is initiated with a quick tap; like standard execution of Resonance Skills; this will launch a quick jab which deals damage while generating Concerto Energy, Resonance Energy and building her Forte Gauge. In the second way, you hold the Resonance Skill allowing her to enter a Parry Stance, which will not only negate the next attack against her but also perform a counter attack, dealing an additional hit. This will deal more damage while generating even more Concerto Energy, Resonance Energy and Forte Gauge.

At the core of her Support playstyle, her Ultimate creates a large vortex that pulls all enemies in a wide radius (excluding Boss and some Elite enemies) into the center, inflicting damage, holding them, and then finally knocking them back, dealing further damage. For the duration, enemies held in the vortex are rendered mostly unable to attack. While leaning on the higher end of energy consumption, this skill allows you to combo with other characters’ AoE skills to deal massive damage to entire groups of clustered enemies. Plus, it generates a good amount of Concerto Energy as an added bonus!

Depending on your preferred playstyle, Jianxin can stay on the field just enough to do some Basic Attacks, keeping her Resonance Skill on CD and using her Echo/Ultimate Skills whenever required. Keep in mind that as a Support character, she brings one of the highest utility Ultimate Skills in the game, in addition to her quick and snappy Basic Attacks & Resonance Skill, altering the way you fight battles. On the other hand, if you prefer her as DPS or Hybrid, her field time requirements can vastly increase in order to use her full gauge Forte Skill every time it’s available.

On the difficulty scale, she’s one of the easier Supports to play, only requiring the player to weave in a few basics here and there, keep her Resonance Skill on cooldown and use her Ultimate and Echo when needed. If players wish to additionally employ her Forte Skill, they can aim for a quick small shield by immediately ending the skill after usage, or using the time for full cast at their discretion.

Her preferred choice of set and Echo is none other than the popular combination of Bell-Borne Geochelone Echo & 5P Rejuvenating Glow, which allows her to grant a semi-permanent ATK% boost, temporary DMG% boost and protection from a set number of attacks. However, in order to activate the set effects, Jianxin must use the Originite: Type IV weapon and cycle Basic Attacks once in a while. In case another character is using the above set, Jianxin can make use of the 5P Moonlit Glow and Impermanence Heron Echo combo instead. And of course, if you want her to function as a DPS, you can equip her with a damage increasing set instead.

Overall, Jianxin is currently utilized as a top tier Support in Tower of Adversity, all thanks to her incredible enemy grouping Ultimate, which allows for quick dispatch of various time consuming monsters while aiming for 3 stars.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • One of the most diverse kits in the game - can perform all roles to some degree

  • Operates as a one-woman army in the overworld thanks to her kit having reasonable damage, crazy shields, and self-healing

  • Can be played as a top tier Support in ToA

  • Can gather monsters together with her Ultimate, making farming easier and allowing for devastating AoE burst combos in ToA

  • Has an immunity parry mechanic on her skill which can allow her to completely ignore certain boss mechanics

  • Simple to play, especially as a Support

  • An amplification Outro capable of buffing Resonance Liberation damage which can be powerful when played around

Cons

  • Ultimate and Intro can't pull in bosses or some elite enemies making her signature supportive benefit less valuable on some endgame stages in ToA

  • Enemies with large bodies like wolves that, while can be dragged, will not clump up perfectly making AoE less effective

  • Her Forte Gauge is incredibly difficult to use properly in endgame, cutting off her access to a large portion of her damage potential and almost all of her shielding and healing

  • Must sacrifice her weapon choice when played as a Support in order to activate the 5P healing set consistently

Ratings

This tier list assesses characters based on their combat potential in Wuthering Waves current most demanding content Tower of Adversity (ToA). ToA is a mode similar to Genshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss or Honkai Star Rail’s Memory of Chaos and requires multiple teams, strong Echoes and good Weapons. This mode offers a reasonable mix of Boss encounters (single target), Elite packs (2-3 targets) and AoE scenarios (5+ Targets), allowing multiple characters to find a niche but in the end, there's a bias toward single target focused characters at the top-end.

Please keep in mind Wuthering Waves is a skill-based game and each character has a different playstyle, difficulty level and even special tricks and combos. Wuthering Waves is also a team based game and it's only by combining both these factors to the highest level a character can reach optimal performance.

Best Weapons
Support configuration

If you're playing Jianxin in the Support role, here are the Weapons you should consider using on her:

1

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 300 | CRIT DMG: 40.5%

Gauntlets with the unique function of adding healing to a characters kit causing their Basic Attacks to restore a small amount of health to themselves with a cooldown of 3 seconds. The Gauntlets have bad combat stats and the heal would otherwise be considered terrible for most content but it allows characters to activate the incredibly powerful 5P Rejuvenating Glow set which requires healing to buff. This weapon should only be equipped when aiming to use the set on a character who could not otherwise heal.

2

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 337 | Energy Reg.: 51.8%

A utility-focused weapon prioritizing lightning-fast Concerto rotations over raw output with the ability to transform entire units' action priorities under the right circumstances. Not always a good choice but when implemented correctly makes all the difference. Also offers an immense amount of Energy Regen further accelerating rotations and supportive capabilities.
DPS/Hybrid configuration

If you're playing Jianxin in the DPS/Hybrid roles, here's how much her damage output will be affected by the Weapons:

100%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 587 | ATK: 36.4%

One of the top Gauntlets options in game with the only competitors being 4★ Weapons with multiple dupes. Offers high base ATK, ATK%, a good amount of Energy Regen to save at least 1 sub-stat on gear to be reallocated to better uses and a conditional bonus boosting Resonance Skill damage and Basic Attacks that is very easy to satisfy.

81.58%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 412 | ATK: 30.3%

Strong generic option for all Gauntlets users, offering an ATK% and DEF% after using Resonance Liberation in the form of 3 charges. Since most characters include their Liberation in their rotation in the endgame you can expect this bonus to be applied quickly and consistently. Unfortunately, whenever you are hit you'll lose 1 charge so to use this weapon effectively, you must minimize how many times you're hit. Calculations assume you can maintain your rotation without getting hit - if you think you will be lower your expectations of this weapon and it's position in the ranking.

81.25%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 412 | CRIT Rate: 20.2%

Specialist Gauntlets for Resonance Liberation scaling users, thanks to its passive that grants increased Resonance Liberation DMG% after using a Resonance Skill. Still useable by characters who don't focus specifically on Liberation damage as a big part of their kit, thanks to the reasonably high base stats but more importantly CRIT RATE main stat.

78.12%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 387 | Energy Reg.: 38.8%

Gauntlets with a generic ATK% boost but an Energy Regen main stat, making them globally usable by all Gauntlets users but best for those who require the Energy Regen instead of more damage stats.

72.88%

Stats at Level 90: ATK: 325 | ATK: 24.3%

Easily accessible 3★ weapon that despite having lower base attack makes up for it with a high ATK% bonus at higher dupes. It does not have enough stats to compete with 4-star weapons but is a reasonable option if it's all you have. The only downside is that the buff only lasts 10 seconds, meaning it may fall off in the hands of a Main DPS character who takes up more field time.

Best Main Echoes

Echoes in Wuthering Waves are an essential part of the character rotations, granting a large amount of Resonance Energy and damage but at the cost of high field time for the most powerful ones. But by using some Echoes right before you're about to switch out on the character, you're able to move to your next character while your previous one is still in the echo animation - it’s what we call an Echo Swap Cancel.

Echo Swap Cancel is almost always the optimal way to use Echoes, and will result in big reductions in character field time and large increases to DPS, but not all of the most powerful Echoes can be swap cancelled in this way. For example, the Feilian Beringal (Aero), Dreamless (Havoc), Tempest Mephis (Electro), Mourning Aix (Spectro), and Infernal Rider (Fusion) Echoes can all be Swap Cancelled.

The remaining element, so Glacio while having powerful Echoes has none powerful enough that can be swap cancelled, and to make things worse, no Echoes that generate sufficient Energy and damage for their field time investment.

The result of this is that you can expect Glacio characters to have higher field time and lower DPS in calculations than their other elemental counter parts until they receive better Echoes to use.

Set

Moonlit Clouds

Supportive Echo that can be run at the cost of a sizeable chunk of damage for the character who equips, trading personal gain for team benefits. Should always be used and immediately switch cancelled right before performing an Outro, leading to another DPS. When done so will grant the next character switching in 12% increased DMG% which when combined with the 5P Moonlit set which also grants 22.5% ATK% under the same conditions makes for a sizeable boost.

While the echo does lower the damage of whoever wears it, it grants a massive chunk of energy on use usually saving 1 or sometimes even 2 Energy Regen sub stats that may otherwise be needed by the wearer allowing for some damage to be recovered.

Set

Rejuvenating Glow

This Echo is an essential asset that almost every team in the game aims to include thanks to its excellent offensive and defensive benefits. The reason for this is the excellent 10% DMG boost it provides throughout its duration but also 50% damage reduction barrier it provides as well. The only catch these buffs have is that they only last for 3 hits meaning after you've taken them you'll lose the buff until you can re-apply it again - even so almost every team aims to have 1 user of this echo. Almost always the main echo of choice for users of the 5P Rejuvenating Glow set.

Set

Sierra Gale

One of the best pure DPS echos in the game, capable of dealing good damage while also being swap cancelled and still granting it's boosting effect. Use this echo in the warm-up phase just moments before you plan to enter your Main DPS burst window and swap cancel it after it performs its first punch (it will continue and use the follow-up even after you switch). After that trigger your Hybrid or Supports concerto and then swap back to your damage dealer to perform your rotation with the buff active.

Best Endgame Stats (Level 90)

Important! CRIT DMG has base value of 150% and Energy Regen has a base value of 100% when you check them in game. The recommended values below don't include the base value but rather show how much on top of it you need to obtain.

When played as a support, Jianxin does not require any specific stats outside of Energy Regen in order to perform well. We still recommend a baseline level of survivability but other stats can be selected and prioritized as you see fit.

  • HP: 18000+

  • DEF: 1100+

  • Energy Regen: 30-40%

    • When playing Jianxian as a support her Ultimate is a large part of the benefit she brings to the fight and to have it up in a timely manner we recommend a minimum of 30 - 40% Energy Regen rate.

    • This amount of ER will grant you an ultimate quickly but not on cooldown. If you want it faster, stacking even more is recommended - as a support it doesn't cost Jianxin much to dedicate more of her build toward this.

    • These recommendations are only for Support Jianxian and when playing DPS her energy needs will be different.

Rotation

This is the optimal rotation for the character. The total time needed to perform it is 14.71 seconds. When selecting the rotations we prioritized achieving 100 Concerto as fast as possible and once that condition was fulfilled, we focused on maximizing the damage output. As or if new and more optimal rotations are found, we'll update the characters calculations as needed.

When playing Jianxin as a support focus on achieving the following in combat:

  • Keep your Resonance Skill on cooldown at all times, unless its usage interrupts use of other higher priority cooldowns or DPS burst windows.
  • Ensure to perform Basic Attacks throughout combat to keep 5P Rejuvenating Glow Set and Originite: Type IV bonus active at all times. These attacks also help in generating additional Concerto energy if aiming to trigger her Outro before character Swap.
  • Use her Echo as frequently as possible asides from saving it for usage just before a burst combo.
  • Always utilize Jianxin’s Ultimate to generate Concerto Energy and control enemies, aside from saving it to Group-Up enemies at specific point of combat.
  • If possible, aim to align Jianxin’s Outro with the main DPS burst combo (provided they benefit from Resonance Liberation damage) or the use of their Ultimate (provided it deals direct damage) when available.
  • Use her Forte Gauge as you deem fit, it will almost always result in overall damage loss, but sometimes the Shield and Concerto Energy generation is worth the tradeoff.
Synergies

A large portion of Calcharo's burst damage is Resonance Liberation damage which Jianxin can buff up with her 38% Resonance Liberation DMG % "Deepen" buff, giving Calcharo a substantial boost to his main damage window.

When playing Jianxin with Calcharo you'll need to focus on maximizing her Concerto but keeping her field time low to ensure Calcharo has all the time he needs for his combos. Jianxin's Liberation is a great tool on top of her already fantastic Outro boost for Calcharo, allowing her to group up trash enemies for Calcharo to cleave down.

Mortefi excels at buffing heavy ATK DMG with his "Deepen" Outro which acts as an immense multiplier thanks to the special "Deepen" scaling mechanic of which Jianxian's Primordial Chi Sprial is entirely Heavy.

When playing Jianxin as a damage dealer, she demands high field time and Mortefi takes up very little making the pair a decent combo of burst and buffs with enough room to fit in a support. Mortefi's ultimate unleashes a slew of Coordinated Attacks over its duration but requires a high hit counter to maximize its effects. During her Forte Gauge, Jianxin attacks over 3 times per second easily maxing out this requirement. Mortefi's ultimate also fires 2 Coordinated Attack instead of 1 when the triggering hit is a heavy attack all of which of course the entire channel of Jianxin's Forte is.

Details about the calculations

Disclaimer: Our team is currently looking into alternative rotations for Jianxin to reduce her total field time while still accessing her Concerto, which could improve her utility and performance in challenging endgame.

Here's the rotation we have used to calculate the DPS (Damage Per Second) shown above. The total time needed to perform the rotation is 14.71 seconds.
