Intro

In this quick guide, we’ll go over which characters can be obtained for free in Arknights: Endfield.

While Arknights is well known for its large amount of welfare (free) operators, it’s still too early to know if the devs will repeat a similar culture with Endfield, especially since teams here are much smaller than in the original game. Despite that, Endfield begins with a heap of good characters that can easily carry you through the story. Furthermore, most of them can also branch out into other teams, thus functioning as the first step into deciding which kind of team you’re going to flow into.

From the early main story, you will obtain the

Endministrator
Perlica
Perlica
Chen Qianyu
Chen Qianyu
and
Wulfgard
Wulfgard
in this order. They all come within the first few quests of Chapter 1, so quite quickly! Wulfgard’s quest also marks the end of part 1 of that chapter, and the last step in the beginner quest that gives you pulls on the “New Horizons” banner.

Ardelia comes from the Beginner login bonus, alongside her signature weapon. Last but not least,
Snowshine
Snowshine
is a reward from pre-registration and will be available in mail with other freebies.

Free Operators

This section goes over the possible roles and teams for each free operator, to help you decide if you want to invest on them or not. For more information on them, check their respective pages!

CharacterRoleComments
Main DPS, Support DPS

The Endmin is one of the best options currently for Physical teams, and can act either as a Main DPS or Support DPS, depending on if you want them to be the one consuming the Vulnerability stacks or someone else.

This versatility comes from the fact that the Endministrator's combo works alongside any other operator whose combo deals damage. At Potential 2 (obtained for free by progressing through the story), they can buff their own ATK by 30% and the team's by 15%. Additionally, they can increase the target’s Physical DMG taken by 20%. Adding both tools, you get an overall good source of damage amplification.

Support DPS, Electric Infliction, Electrification

Perlica can easily fit in any Arts Focused team, even more so if it’s an Electric team. Much like the Endmin, her combo is one of the easiest to trigger in the game. Any Final Strike will trigger Perlica’s combo, which forcefully inflicts [Electrification] on the target. Getting a free Arts Reaction like this is already good enough, but it gets even more value if you take into consideration that [Electrification] increases all Arts DMG received by the target, from all sources.

Triggering certain Arts Reactions is also a trigger requisite for some other combos, allowing Perlica to shine even more, especially in Electric-focused teams. At the time of release, she is also the only character who can apply Electric Infliction consistently outside ultimates and combo skills in a way that you can apply it at any time.

Support DPS, Vulnerability Applier

Chen is worth investing if you plan to play with the Physical team. Everything about her is made to benefit the Physical team. She can have a very solid personal damage output, but her main role in the team is applying Vulnerability stacks - the Physical team needs a lot of them, and burns through them quickly.

Other notable traits from Chen are in her Talents. Similarly to the Endmin, she can buff her own ATK, and can deal Stagger more consistently than most characters. This is particularly useful for the Physical team, as both the interruption and vulnerable state triggered by the Stagger are particularly useful to amp up the team’s overall output as well as helping with survivability. With enough stagger cycling, it’s possible to ditch a dedicated healer in favor of more utility and damage.

Support DPS, Heat Infliction

As a Support DPS in Heat teams, he’s notable as a Heat Infliction generator, able to stack several stacks quickly, and even forcefully trigger [Combustion] with his ultimate, which greatly helps some characters, like Laevatain.

Healing, Corrode, Susceptibility

Ardelia is an operator who can fit in pretty much any team. She’s definitely one of the safest picks to invest, and definitely worth every material spent. She’s a solid sustain, and can inflict lasting Physical and Arts Susceptibility. This means she’s a good source of damage amp no matter what team you are playing. She can also reliably apply [Corrosion], another Arts Reaction that is particularly good for Arts teams, since it reduces the enemy’s RES. However, it’s worth noting that Ardelia will be often the one consuming the [Corrosion] applied, in order to enhance her own skill.

While that all sounds great, and it is, in order to function, Ardelia must have access to her combo skill which requires the controlled operator perform a Final Strike against an enemy who have neither Arts Infliction or Vulnerable stacks. In most teams that churn through these stacks it's no problem, but in teams which leave stacks lying around and unused this can lock Ardelia out from accessing the majority of her kit.

Healing, Tank, Cryo Infliction

At first glance, Snowshine is yet another character who can be slotted in almost any team, thanks to her universal utility. However, given the current status of Defenders in the game, it’s important to consider if you really need her extra protection and survivability. Or if it would be better to slot another operator who can buff your team’s damage instead.

With that aside, the main reason to bring Snowshine is the outstanding healing capabilities of her combo which is triggered when the controlled operator is hit by an enemy at 60% or less HP. Using said combo heals the entire team then applies a heal over time for even more sustain. If you find yourself dying, slotting Snowshine into your composition can be a good solution to that. Outside of that Snowshine also has a parry mechanic on her skill, can forcibly apply Solidification with her Ultimate as either an AoE stun or synergy for your team and can also apply Cryo Infliction in a pinch if you need as well.
