Introduction
Performance Profile

Damage [5/5]

AP Efficiency [4/5]

Draw [1/5]

Utility [5/5]

Selena is a 4-Star Passion attribute Ranger who best provides her damage from the sidelines in the form of Extra/Co-ordinated attacks.

Selena's damage mostly comes from the "Mark" mechanic, which causes Selena to do a 100% Damage Extra-Attack to enemies inflicted with Mark whenever an Attack Card is used on any unit. She has multiple ways to inflict Mark on enemy units and also increase the amount of damage dealt via Mark

Selena is able to pursue a number of different playstyles, but as more characters have been released, one dominant one has emerged and that is Ravage Support. This style involves Selena establishing several temporary buffs, which allow her to launch Coordinated Attacks every time her allies attack or after enemies are Ravaged in order to deal damage. Selena best fits into a sub-DPS role due to the majority of her damage being dealt when allies deal damage, thus best pairing her with another DPS unit to fully take advantage of this.

In addition to this, the Ravage support build and therefore Selena is currently the only one that can replenish an enemy's Tenacity Bar, allowing them to be Ravaged/Broken multiple times in one turn. This ability by itself makes Selena a meta contender, allowing her to trigger all Ravage effects multiple times per turn instead of only 1. This is especially powerful with Ravage-focused characters like Sereniel. One quirk is that this playstyle isn’t really present at all in the base version of her cards and is only accessible through specific Epiphanies.

Selena lacks any natural Card Draw in her kit; ideally, you'll want to pair her with other units who can offer Card Draw to alleviate this weakness. Selena also benefits greatly from additive buffs such as Morale due to relatively low damage on her Extra/Co-ordinated attacks to further boost her Potential damage output if you do plan on utilizing her Mark playstyle.

Pros & Cons
Pros

  • Only character capable of replenishing enemy Tenacity Bars, giving her a unique niche in the meta

  • With the right build, she attacks through her allies via Coordinated Attacks and Mark and doesn’t need to do so herself.

  • Has many different build paths and unique Epiphanies, allowing for many Potential builds now and in the future

  • Can be played as a Ravage support, a Passion support or a main Damage Dealer, even though some are stronger than others depending on the current meta.

  • Has options to be able to deal high direct Tenacity Damage and apply Passion Weakness.

  • Capable single-target Potential with some solid AoE options if chosen via Epiphanies.

Cons

  • Primary meta build requires specific Epiphanies and isn’t functional based on base cards.

  • Most popular builds rely on allies to attack and use their cards for her to function in the team.

Ratings

The ratings below are based on the Season Save Data modes and the Chaos Manifestation mode. Each of the modes values different mechanics, so some characters may shine in one of the, while being underwhelming in the other.

Key Mechanics
  • Mark: Mark is a stackable debuff that Selena can apply through a wide variety of her cards, forming the core of her kit. When an enemy is marked and an Attack Card is used, Selena will fire an additional attack toward the marked target/s, dealing 100% ATK damage. To take advantage of this, Mark generation needs to be combined with high-frequency attacks to achieve the best results.

  • Break/Ravage: The other mechanic core to Selena’s identity is Break/Ravage and Tenacity Damage. Many of Selena’s abilities cause her attacks and additional attacks to either inflict additional Tenacity Damage or increase the Tenacity Damage dealt by a %. Building on this, Selena also has abilities that provide additional benefit each time an enemy is broken, further incentivizing a high Tenacity Damage break playstyle.

  • Attunement: Triggers listed “Attunement” effect when drawn naturally or via card effect. Does not activate if the card is “Moved” to the hand.

  • Passion Weakness: A debuff that causes the enemy to be treated as though they are Passion Weak for all Combatant attacks while it remains active. It is duration-based, not hit-count-based.

Potential

Selena’s Signature Potentials offer significant damage boosts as well as some additional functionality, making them a high priority to unlock.

  • 3-1:  Causes Engagement Fire to deal Piercing Damage, which ignores enemy shields.

  • 5-1:  Increases Engagement Fire’s damage multiplier by +5% with an additional +5% bonus granted if Bonus Additional Damage exceeds 15%.

  • 7:  Increases Passion DMG% by +4% passively, with a further +4% increase unlocked if Bonus Additional Damage exceeds 30%.

Base

Base performance of the character.

E1
100.00%

Ego 1

Selena’s first Ego node to be unlocked adds the [Initiation] tag to her “Sniper’s Domain”. This is a decent first node that boosts Selena’s damage output right away, as she’ll always start with this card in her opening hand most useful in situations where Selena’s Mark playstyle is pursued, compared to when she’s played as a Ravage support.

E2
100.04%

Ego 2

Her second node provides a passive +20% damage increase to Selena’s Mark damage. A decent second node that again, further boosts her Mark playstyle.

E3
100.04%

Ego 3

This node increases the base and maximum level of their [Basic Card Upgrade], [Unique Card Upgrade] and [Common Card Upgrade] Potentials by 3. Overall, not a majorly impactful node for Selena due to the majority of their damage coming from Extra/Co-ordinated attacks, really only providing power before she unlocks various Epiphanies for her cards.

E4
100.27%

Ego 4

Her fourth Ego increases the effectiveness of their Ego Skill, adding +50% damage to the amount dealt and also increasing the amount of Mark applied by 1. Not a bad upgrade to have, the extra damage and additional Mark stack can provide useful, but otherwise not majorly required.

E5
100.27%

Ego 5

This node again increases the base and maximum level of their [Basic Card Upgrade], [Unique Card Upgrade] and [Common Card Upgrade] Potentials by 3. Similar to her 3rd Ego node, as not much of Selena's damage comes directly from her cards, another relatively low-power Ego node is to be unlocked.

E6
100.52%

Ego 6

Selena’s final Ego gives Selena a 30% chance to deal 100% extra damage whenever her Mark is triggered. This further boosts Selena’s Mark playstyle.

Epiphanies:

  • Neutral [★★] - Target Neutral Epiphany: Draw 1.
With Draw 1, it is easier to keep it as it doesn’t put strain on your draw needs for its relatively low value; however, it still has the issue of it being a much worse value than High-Power Scope IV in terms of damage and often needing to be duped for value.
  • High-Power Scope I
[★★] - Now applies 4 Mark (instead of 2) if the enemy is doing an attack action. This is one of the best ways of applying Mark quickly in a Mark-based Selena build, but Mark-based builds tend to be outperformed by Extra Attack or Supportive Selena builds, so it is not recommended.
  • High-Power Scope II
[★★★] - An Upgrade that has the effect of when Selena is using an Attack Card, apply 1 Mark to the enemy. This is one of the best Epiphanies for Selena Carry, but it's not recommended to use Selena Carry over her more Supportive / Sub-DPS alternatives that often offer higher damage and need less work, to work.
  • High-Power Scope III
[] - 50% additive buff to Mark. This is a nice additional buff to Mark-based builds, but Mark-based builds tend to be outperformed by Extra Attack or Supportive Selena builds, so it is not recommended. Moreover, the extremely specific and conditional buff to Mark is worse than just generic buffs
  • High-Power Scope IV
[★★★★★] - Does an Extra Attack when an ally uses an Attack Card. This is her go-to Epiphany, essentially an unconditional Extra Attack after being played–do note that duping/playing multiple only increases the duration of the effect, not the damage.
  • High-Power Scope V
[★★★] - An Upgrade that applies 1 Mark to enemies at start of turn. Moreover, it’s an Upgrade that can activate Quantum Collector’s damage boost on Upgrade for OTK-setups that Selena is sometimes used in.

Epiphanies:

  • Neutral [★★★] - Target Neutral Epiphany: Draw 1.
Draw 1 basically just makes it so the card can be worth keeping and slightly worse value than Target Spotted V in most teams.
  • Target Spotted I
[] - Does a small attack when Attunement is activated, loses the Mark effect. This can be used like a pseudo-Extra Attack with Precision Aim or Nia’s Adagio (to re-activate the Attunement effect), but it doesn’t benefit from Extra Attack% like Selena’s normal Extra Attacks would (and takes a ton of steps to utilize), so it is not recommended to build around.
  • Target Spotted II
[★★] - An attack that applies 4 Mark if enemy is in a Mark state. This is one of the best ways of applying Mark quickly in a Mark-based Selena build, but Mark-based builds tend to be outperformed by Extra Attack or Supportive Selena builds so it is not recommended.
  • Target Spotted III
[★★] - Now, a Skill that shields and applies the 2 Mark to all enemies. Can be a decent card for auto-farming AOE simulations, but it isn’t an especially strong effect in any difficult content and not recommended to take.
  • Target Spotted IV
[★★★] - Changes to a Skill that shields and loses its Mark but gains ‘Attunement: Draw 1’. This has good synergy with effects like Precision Aim and Nia’s Adagio Epiphanies, as it will allow the card to be used as a draw engine; however, oftentimes it's easier to just build thin decks or have Divines on other options rather than optimize in this way.
  • Target Spotted V
[★★★★★] - Now, an Upgrade that does a strong Extra Attack on Ravage. This is the go-to choice in most builds that is worth keeping, since it presents no strain on your deck after Turn 1 and is effectively free damage. Moreover, it’s an Upgrade that can activate Quantum Collector’s damage boost on Upgrade for OTK-setups that Selena is sometimes used in.

Epiphanies:

  • Neutral [★★] - Target Neutral Epiphany: Draw 1.
Draw 1 can make it much easier to keep this card for the Weakness Imprint (Elemental Advantage), which is an incredibly strong effect on characters that can use it. The only reason this isn’t rated higher is because there are many other ways to get Passion Weakness Imprint, specifically, from other avenues (Lucas, Mei Lin etc.), which makes it less of a strong use-case for Selena specifically.
  • Drone Bombing I
[★★] - Now is 2 Passion Weakness Imprint. This practically guarantees 100% uptime on it, making it a noticeable Upgrade over the base card. The only reason this isn’t rated higher is because there are many other ways to get Passion Weakness Imprint, specifically, from other avenues (Lucas, Mei Lin etc.) which makes it less of a strong use-case for Selena specifically.
  • Drone Bombing II
[] - Loses Passion Weakness, but gains 2 Mark effect when Passion card is played before it. The damage of options like IV and V being vastly superior makes this not a recommended choice for damage, and the utility of options like Neutral or Drone I being much stronger makes it not recommended as a utility option.
  • Drone Bombing III
[] - A weak AOE attack that gets significantly stronger for every Passion Attack Card played. Because it is only a Passion Attack Card and not Passion cards, in general, it is significantly harder to get value out of this compared to Mei Lin’s effects, which are ALL Passion cards (has very little synergy with Veronica for example).
  • Drone Bombing IV
[★★★★★] - Effect is now: Extra Attack when ally attacks Weakness (has Elemental Advantage on attack). This, in combination with High-Power Scope IV, allows Selena to do 2 Extra Attacks for every attack an ally does, provided the ally has Weakness Imprint / Elemental Advantage, which allies like Sereniel and Mei Lin should always have.
  • Drone Bombing V
[★★★] - Now, an Upgrade that allows Selena to do an Extra Attack for every Passion card played. This is an incredibly strong card when used alongside a Passion DPS, like Mei Lin (or Selena carry), who attacks a lot. However, it has very little value when not used with a Passion DPS.

Epiphanies:

  • Neutral [] - Target Neutral Epiphany: N/A.
. The base Epiphany for this is essentially just a bit of Tenacity Damage, which tends to be quite low value compared to more specialized utility. It also often has antisynergy with characters Selena wants to be played with, like Sereniel or Mei Lin, since it will cause you to Ravage *too* soon.
  • Tactical Maneuver I
[] - Now a bit more shield and 3 Tenacity Damage instead of 2. Much like the base Epiphany, Tenacity Damage isn’t particularly high value in the current balance and is probably not worth keeping in your deck.
  • Tactical Maneuver II
[★★] - Now a decent attack that does extra Tenacity Damage. Selena’s damage generally comes from Extra Attacks, which this can facilitate in a Selena Carry deck; however, Selena Carry isn’t a popular use nor is it recommended.
  • Tactical Maneuver III
[★★] - Gains an additional effect of 2 Mark if the target is already Ravaged. Can be useful in a Mark-based Selena build, but this is not her most popular nor recommended use-case.
  • Tactical Maneuver IV
[★★★★★] - Becomes a 0-cost card with the effect of restoring the Tenacity Bar of the target to full. This is the go-to Epiphany, with Selena’s main utility feature that sets her apart from all other Support/Sub-DPS. If not playing this Epiphany (like for Extra Attacker build), the card is typically just removed.
  • Tactical Maneuver V
[★★] - Now hits all enemies but is only 1 Tenacity Damage and 1 Mark. Can be a decent card for auto-farming AOE simulations, but it isn’t an especially strong effect in any difficult content and not recommended to take.

Memory Fragments

The Memory Fragments & Equipment suggestions below are based on calculations we did. If you want to check the damage formula and how scaling the damage works in CZN, check this guide.

Recommended Loadout
100%

[2-PC]: +25% Critical Damage.

[2-PC]: +12% Attack.

Flex

2/2/2 is currently the only recommended set combination for Selena as her main build in Save currently does little to no card damage and is almost entirely made up of Extra Attacks in the form of Coordinated Attacks which have no cost and are not considered "cards". Because of this none of the available 4P sets apply their bonuses to her so the only other viable option is 2/2/2. In Chaos Selena does deal some card damage but even there a lot of her damage potential will be from Mark which also has no cost and isn't considered a "card".

For more damage use 2P Cursed Corpse (if you can keep Agony on targets at all times). Alternatively for stronger Chaos starts try 2P Seth's Scarab, or if you want more survivability use 2P Healer's Journey. If none of that appeals, you can use any 2 strong sub/main stat pieces instead of a final 2P set bonus as well.

Main and sub-stats

In a lot of cases, flat sub-stats are better than percentage ones when it comes to HP, ATK and DEF. The reason behind this is that in CZN the characters stats are pretty low and you get more value from flat bonus rather than percentage one based on calcs.

To fully activate Selena's Potential 7, aim to reach higher than 30% Extra DMG% from sub stats. Doing this will cause major damage increase for her.

Partners

Our best Partner recommendation try to balance both the raw damage boost they provide based on our calculations with the additional utility provided by the skill - combined with how it interacts with the characters's kit. We have rated each Partner based on how much additional damage and the utility they provide. Read the comments under each Partner to better understand our reasoning.

No calculations in Chaos Zero Nightmare are completely accurate for all scenarios, including the ones below. What team, decks, epiphanies, gear, equipment, and enemies you’re facing all impact them. Because of this, take the results as guidelines and combine them with the explanations to make your decisions. Calculations use endgame save data set-ups, including 5 turns of combat using the whole deck with all Ego skills unless otherwise stated.

Equipment

In the Zero System, it’s incredibly easy to access all items acquirable via the shop thanks to the five free refreshes you get each shop node - that's why the recommendations below are limited to them only. ATTENTION! Area-specific items can sometimes be more powerful than shop items, but are far less consistent to get or require running a specific world or giving up certain event options. Use the shop list as a starting point for building up your deck saves.

The equipment recommendations are based on items obtainable in Season 2’s Chaos - Burning Life. If you’re running content outside of Season 2, it’s possible some options may not be available for acquisition, or that other options not obtainable in Burning Life may be better.

Comments - Weapons
  • Equipment
    Intellect of Discord
     - Offers a huge 18% Combat Attack passively which for most Attack scalers makes this weapon the defacto best in slot weapon if you're able to acquire it alongside the correct save and don't have another better Mythic equipment options.
  • Equipment
    Second Method
     - A generically strong and accessible legendary equipment for all combatants that deal the majority of their damage via Extra Attacks thanks to its +35% (Additive) Extra Attack bonus. Usually never best in slot, but always an acceptable pick-up for how common it is to find.
  • Equipment
    Dagger That Tricked the Shadow
     - 12% Crit DMG is always a competitive option if you can find it in your runs and nothing better turns up or is required for your build.
  • Equipment
    Sword Reflected in the Lake
     - A generic weapon that provides a large 25% (Multiplicative) damage boost but only while you hold 6 cards or more. This is a strong legendary equipment providing you can satisfy its conditions while using the majority of your highest damaging abilities, but this is much easier said than done making it only situationally good in certain decks.
  • Equipment
    Obsidian Sword
     - Very easy to find and grants 12% (Multiplicative) damage to everything. It's never the best, but if you have nothing else you should definitely grab it.
  • Equipment
    Tentacles of Chaos
     - Provides 8% Combat Attack to all operators in the team making it the go-to support weapon for most characters not acting as the main DPS when supporting Attack scaling carries providing the Mythic slot isn't required elsewhere.
Comments - Armor
  • Equipment
    Fairy King's Crown
     - The Crit Rate this armour provides is almost always in demand and a competitive option making it a piece worth seeking out unless you're able to obtain better more specialized options.
  • Equipment
    Mask of Flames
     - Provides a 35% (Multiplicative) damage boost against enemies which are vulnerable. Powerful on characters that value multiplicative damage boosts (less so on those that don't) but only so long as you can consistently keep Vulnerable applied.
  • Equipment
    Star-Lit Cloak
     - A generic defensive option usable by all combatants making it a fine supportive addition if no other options are found. However not generally as enticing as direct damage or more immediate utility options for most builds.
  • Equipment
    Vine Camouflage
     - An easy to get and nice inclusion for teams that have use for a powerful (but conditional) survival mechanic. Usually not the most optimal choice within the armor slot for most characters but if you miss no all other options is very easy to pick up as a fall-back.
Comments - Trinkets
  • Equipment
    Amorphous Cube
     - The go-to generic damage accessory for most characters that is trivially easy to use and always for the most part a solid addition for any character that can make use of additive damage. Wont beat out more specialized options but always a great fallback.
  • Equipment
    Quantum Collector
     - Grants 20% (multiplicative) damage to the wearer any time any combatant uses an upgrade card (no limit) but only for 1 turn. In specific teams targetting low turn count kills this can be the best accessory available, but in longer fights, or low upgrade teams it loses a lot of its appeal.
  • Equipment
    Sphere of Randomness
     - An exceptionally powerful generic support trinket that grants both 1 draw and 1 AP at the start of battle turbo charging your early game. Is a Mythic item meaning it wont be suitable for every character, but on those who can afford to run it and don't need other accessories in this slot is well worth slotting in if it comes up in your runs.

Deck & Teams

Recommended Build
Build Comments
  • Ravage Support - A deck most notably known for its synergy with Sereniel, but it can be used alongside any carry who may want to Ravage multiple times, as some Mei Lin builds. It utilizes Tactical Maneuver IV to refund an enemy’s tenacity, in order to ravage them multiple times, as is the case for her Sereniel team, where you get back your Homing Lasers (and create some) for every Ravage done. Additionally, she can add up to 2 extra attacks for every attack played, making her do a rather large amount of the team’s damage. Oftentimes more than the main ‘carry’ like Sereniel when played in an optimized set-up.
  • Extra Attacker (Generic) - When played alongside a DPS who has Weakness attack (elemental advantage), Selena can perform similarly to or better than Hugo as she can easily give 2 extra attacks for every attack the DPS does, often doing more damage than they do. Do note that she will perform quite poorly in scenarios where the DPS does not have Weakness attack, though.
Removal
  • Engagement Fire

    Emergency Shielding
     - Removed in basically any Selena deck.
Conditional Removal
  • Sniper's Domain
     - Most popular Selena builds do not utilize Mark, so this effectively is -1 turn-1 draw in them and an easy removal.
Copying
  • Tactical Maneuver
     - Her main niche is as a Tenacity support, with this being her cling to fame as the Tenacity refund unit.
Best Synergies
  • Selena can enable a boss to be Ravaged up to 4 more times, which means the number of homing lasers Sereniel can effectively be multiplied by 3x (6 versus 2).
  • Selena can add up to 2 extra attacks on every Sereniel hit if her coordinated attack skills are played before Sereniel’s attacks. Meaning, you can potentially triple the amount of attacks you’re getting for every attack Sereniel plays.
  • Sereniel’s cards generally being start of hand makes Selena’s Potential draw issues less of a factor, further increasing their synergy.
  • Through neutral morale Epiphanies on cards like Devil Dice or Dice Trick, Cass is able to give high additive buffing with little cost.
  • With Divine AP on Sereniel, she can circumvent the major hurdle of Cass, which is the cost of playing his cards or setting up initially and allow him to buff even more as he isn’t reliant on Divines himself.
  • Note: It can be challenging for many players to use Cassius effectively without Divine Epiphanies on him or Sereniel.
  • Cassius, being Instinct, means he benefits from Sereniel’s Plasma Missile Instinct Weakness Imprint alongside Selena’s Extra Attacks on Weakness Attack, giving him amazing synergy in assisting Ravages and facilitating more Extra Attacks.
  • He can net a decent amount of draw to ease the burden that Selena’s lack of draw might impose.
